What do you use, aloebot? Mine is just an old Nikon d60 which you can still get for cheap on eBay. Then just set everything on manual mode and you can have it do nearly everything you want. My kit actually explains the kind of plants I have---small and best appreciated with a magnifying glass.

    Dorstenia foetida

Other than a plethora of huge plumeria trees (and I mean: TREES) I only photographed this NOID flower (in a tree) at the airport:

And I was happy to see my big tiger aloe in full flower when I returned home:

I'm going to expand on the white Desert Rose that I have posted above. The flowers have been perfectly white singles that then 'fade' to a pink. It's really more dramatic than the pictures show.

This has probably happened in the past, but I didn't notice it. And maybe the weather has been different this year - we are in drought conditions. (don't get me started on a rant - we get over 60 inches of rain a year! that's not a drought!) I often get a mealie infestation on the blooms if I am not careful, so I was checking and noticed the pink!

Mammillaria backebergiana, with 25+ buds! I got this in March last year, with one of the horrible strawflowers hot-glued on top. You can see the damage where I peeled the glue off. The plant grew an inch in one year, so the damage is now an inch down the sides. I hate those darn strawflowers.

Thanks! :-) This species is similar to E. alfredii and E. ankarensis. I give all three species ample water (2x per week) when in growth. They need as much light as possible, although they prefer incredibly strong "filtered" light. My E. maromokotrensis does better in a clay pot that is soaked at every watering too, with soil that is more absorbent than what I usually use for Madagascan Euphorbia, as its stems are not as succulent as its relatives.

It would be easy to miss.... the flowers on my Ledebouria are finally opening up

Last September I pruned a Desert Rose and planted a couple of stems to see if they would root. I guess this one has rooted well. I was surprised to see flowers!

Ironically, the mother plant is not even budded up.

Still blooming love this little gal, I also posted her in possibly Oct, or November blooms! She just keeps going! Also not sure about our "two lips" aka we are horrible at remembering the names especially scientific forms ;) either about to bloom or grow new leaves, but I was under the impression they bloom first?

The white is accidental sand substrate that I always get in the plants better than around! Anyway either way it's exciting and a first in our green lives! Love all the beautiful blooms and enjoy seeing the regulars/pros posting and saving the world one cacti and succulent at a time!! You guys and gals are the best! Sincerely Mary

These night-blooming mesembs are making me not get enough sleep. This one smells very nice.

    Stomatium niveum

Nice clump, ycloh1! How long does it take for them to clump like that?

    rina_Ontario,Canada 5a thanked User

My Stomatium mustellinum doesn't smell that nice, maybe a little sweet? What does yours smell like? They are neat little bottlebrush flowers.

Onlytheclassy - If conditions are just right, they will flower. But if not you will get new leaves without flowers. =)

Weird. Neohenricia sibbettii blooms are supposed to be scented but mine is odorless! The S. niveum has a faint smell of syrupy gardenia. It may also because there were two of them open at the same time so there was enough molecules for my brain to register.

Bottlebrush, eh. More like lens brush?

Pagan, L williamsii was bought with all the clumps.

    Could not resist it.

I think I forgot what a bottlebrush looks like, haha. Lens brush it is!

Neohenricia smells sweet and fruity. Had a hard time describing my Stomatium, which is why I asked. Syrupy is fitting, but I don't know what a Gardenia smells like!
