Backsplash advice - "floating kitchen" concern

Nearing the start of a full kitchen remodel. We will be extending the existing hardwood floors (red oak plank with a medium finish - reads a warm reddish brown) into the kitchen. I'm concerned that compared to the rest of the kitchen, the floor will be dark and the kitchen will "float" and not look right. I'm not interested in trying to do a different floor because the layout will really demand we keep going with the wood floor.

Kitchen cabs will be shaker, painted a light blue-green, with white appliances. Because of the white appliances, we are going with white countertops. I'm struggling with the BS and whether I should try to do something there to help "ground" the kitchen. There is no island (just a peninsula that bridges the kitchen/dining) so no chance to do something different in just part of the kitchen. The cabinet/countertop look will be similar to pic below (obviously the floors will be wood, appliances white and BS is TBD).
