I assume the "feature" post was a structural member you couldn't eliminate when you took out a bearing wall. I'm not sure a post is ever a feature, so I'm not sure I'd call attention to it by wrapping it with anything.

All your other choices look great.

If you're staying with a White/Gray color scheme, I'd suggest you look at backsplash materials that add some texture. Hand made tile or porcelain with a textured surface will bring in some interest without taking over. The column can be wrapped to imitate a tall cabinet (two or three door panels & crown molding.

Feature post is a strange way to put it.

Personally, I don't think its unfortunate placement and size warrant making it a focal point. I would try to minimize it and not call attention to it in any way.

Don't bring the backsplash out to meet the front of the counters. Keep it on the back walls. The area beside your knife set.

Do you plan to take the tiles around the window and up to the ceiling behind the vent hood?

The tile is a little too plain....just another opinion!!! I can see in one of the pictures that there is a stained glass panel at your front door. You could use this as a cue to repeat a white on white back splash by using a mosaic of marble with a curvy design. Adding color is still my first choice so you could stick with subway tile but add color randomly by mixing a subway of the same size in to the design.

Beautiful home... Everything flows and you have such a pretty selection of textures. We would be too messy to have a backsplash that we couldn't wipe down.... are your wood floors red oak? We are in the middle of a great debate with flooring and stain and our floor guys use Bona... Love that yours are classic and not "too" dark.
