Start with removing the tired retro awning, it makes the facade 'heavy' and hides the door. Then think graphically with limited use of light and bright colors to make it pop (see attached images)

I agree with removing the two awnings over the doors. I do like the "zig zag" of the large awning. Need to keep it and work in a 1950s design. Here is a picture of the Wonder Bowl in Anaheim. Know you have limitations since the entrance is right on the street but I would retro it up
