I might put a pair of matching chairs on the side of the larger leather chair and then maybe a bench on the other side. That leather chair with the tufting is sort of throwing the space for me though. It looks sort of like an office chair to me. I love that you are working with a Persian rug. I'm sad to see so few of them used anymore.

Leather chair is definitely not an office chair and has a very nice curved back you see when entering room from the front of the room. Not enough room for a pair of chairs along side swivel leather chair or other leather chair that belongs in the basement family room, only here until new pieces are purchased

Leather egg chair is once again moving out of the room it seems to be blocking progress. Questions should we turn the piano so that it sits closer to wall with keys toward fireplace? This would let us place a pair of maybe spool chairs by the front windows. Then we want a nice leather club chair on other end of seating. Would a cocktail ottoman work in front of the sofa and if so what color? I was thinking to add a blue from the rug, but worry how to tie all this in. Anyone will to photo shop this room?

No that chair comes the way it is, sorry. Maybe someone else has a source for it in leather? Yes, as long as the pianist can see guests, this is important. So, moving the piano a tad would be fine, in fact better I think. What concerns me about your space right now is everything is plain fabrics, leathers and colors. This room needs that little kick in the behind! The drapes are OK, but maybe they look better in the room? I would have loved a print in your drapes and that could have picked up some blue. But that is done, so need to move on. A blue even tone on tone chair would be nice. Don't you crave some color in here? I would do leather on an ottoman (best for feet) and fabric on the club chair.

You are sweet, I am the piano player and no one is around when I play because I really can't play very well. Yes, for me draperies are perfect in the room the texture works. The club chair needs to be leather because husband loves to watch tv and snack and always drops a piece of butter popcorn or last night a piece of chocolate, he has other good qualities though. I understand the color addition thinking if we turn piano and can place spool or some type of open chair to front of room would use a blue from the rug. I have been leaning towards a very subtle color palette after the bight red and yellow of last house I am in a very different place.

I spent yesterday on the computer trying to use a room planner inputting my furniture with above choices did not look real I need to learn how to cut and paste like I see ya'll do on this site.

Thank you. He is such an easy going and agreeable guy so I want to accommodate him. He would happily sit in anything and not complain, but chair would show wear fast. Funny when he does have an opinion I let him choose that is why we have star style bath faucet handles from kohlers artifacts line, not my first choice even though they are nice. For kitchen I went with a gorgeous single handle from Waterstone (wish I had know they are built to order and take seven weeks two months ago)

I love what you have started. I think I would try the single chair next to the fireplace with a floor lamp next to it - great spot for reading. You won't be able to see tv, but with an ottoman as a coffee table (maybe leather to tie with in your chair?) the couch will be really comfortable. Your rug is gorgeous - have you thought about adding some navy or royal chairs (see how nice it looks below). I think you have to be careful in not selecting too traditional chairs or too modern, in order to achieve a modern/yet classic look. Once you add complimentary pillows on your couch, your room will feel coordinated, rich and so cozy. Good luck.

Maureen, that is what I am doing, but finding items makes for a little more work. I am a pottery barn neighborhood, nice homes that all look alike nothing edgy here. Funny people love what we have done to the house, because it is refreshing.

That is precisely what I like about what you are accomplishing Diane. No cookie cutter for you! Yea! I realize some need the confirmation of "ready" made looks like Pottery Barn and RH, but it gets so tiring. Keep up the good work. Post pics when you are able to reposition the piano.

Diane - Had some luck today for you. I was out with a client shopping for some furniture for her new home. We went to Ethan Allen and I of course, had to check out some fabrics and saw this one as a possibility for your chair. It is so gorgeous. The color is so pretty, the pattern is a paisley which would work very well in your setting, and look great on a club-type chair or any chair really. It is a raised soft almost velvety texture. My picture below doesn't do it justice. You have to see this fabric. Very pretty. Hope this helps in your search. I think the shade of blue would work really well with your rug and sofa, etc. I think it would also handle drips and spills quite nicely especially with a bit of protective stuff. Here it is.

Without the tag. The color is much clearer in real life and the look is white and blue. Very pretty. There was another fabric that has a bolder geometric I took a picture of for you too. I don't think this is your look, but I shot it anyway. Never know.At any rate, just keep thinking about your room so, enjoy!

You are so nice to think of me, I love that fabric paisley is my favorite pattern followed up houndstooth. My husband helped me move the piano just now, looks so much better feels like a connected room! Sun is really coming is closed drapes now it is dark, ugh!

I just went back to last October I think it was a saw my Option 1 layout had the piano just about in the current position! We have come full circle. If you do the leather English roll arm chair, with foot stool, maybe you could do an ottoman in that paisley fabric? Wait til you see it. It is yummy! :)

Dawn y, thank you I could not agree more Persian rugs are so timeless. Unfortunately I did not inherit this one, but searched for one similar to the one my grandparents had. Every time I see mine I think of them and smile. I know the money was not wasted our 26 year old daughter has already said she will take it now or when even I will give it to her.

If the piano bench seat is in good condition, leave it on! It ties into the red rug. Your rug will give you all the colors you can use in the room. I have decorated around our Persian rugs (various colors in four rooms) using their colors. The sofa and chair are beautiful. Any color wood (except probably blonde) will go with the rug. I keep my woods in the same family...medium-toned but not necessarily the same tone or the same wood. Continue in the transitional direction you have now....some curvy, some sculptural, some traditional, all colorful. Well done so far.

We have spent the spring and summer enjoying the back screened porch, but I know winter is coming so I am focused on getting things ordered to be ready. Found what I think is the right leather chair posted below, also glass and antique brass coffee table, floor lamp (s). What I envision is new leather chair to left of sofa if facing the fireplace. Tripod floor lamps on both ends of sofa, glass coffee table see below. Two smaller round tufted blue ottomans to place on the opposite end of coffee table as the leather chair. Thinking of chairs and vintage table by windows for cribbage, puzzles or cup of tea and a book on snowy days.

Love some feedback, hard when everything needs to be ordered to see it. One of the many times I wish I had a sister to bounce ideas off of.




Hi! Diane. Glad to see your back. In reading your post I felt like we were chatting over that cup of tea. Love the pieces you have selected. Love that leather chair. Seems the perfect piece. My only caution is for the tripod style lamps. Those legs in passage spots can create little tripping issues. Check out floor lamps on circa.com. They have some new ones with lovely styling you might like and I think would suit your room very well. I can't post them from my iPad, but when I get to my desktop I might be able to do so. Let the ordering begin! Perfect timing to get things close to complete before Thanksgiving and snow falling!

Flo, thank you for jumping back in with me. I really love the coffee table, I have only seen it on-line. The antique gold/brass is what caught my eye what do you think? I hear you about the tripod lamps, but the space between chair and sofa is very open and I feel like I need something to fill it visually without being a solid table.

For the footstools I am thinking the Ethan Allen blue paisley you posted months back might work.

Thank you have not been busy getting a lot completed. Master bedroom is done sans a white coverlet for summer and a side chair. Found a beautiful 1900 Persian that looks like it was made for me.

Gorgeous rug. As to the floor lamp, I love that one too. If you go back, I saw one similar for beside your piano that had that design, but alas it was pricey! But it was black shade, and legs and gold base as I recall. Let me check. I don't think the style is too modern because you have the piano and that kind of give you leeway. brb

Love the black shade and I think with your black console, black piano, you need to repeat the black one more time in some form in the living room. Might be a printed black and white lumbar pillow, or a black lamp shade. The black shades bring that touch of drama to a room with a piano!

Went back through post and there was your suggestion for a glass and brass table. It took a while to get here, but thank you for planting the seed. I am sold on the coffee table I found a few days ago from William Sonoma home. Think a pair of floor lamps too will work.

Found this chair for my mid- century desk not what I would have thought. When I saw it in the store while looking for a bedroom chair it grabbed me.
