Wow, you actually got seedpods to grow on Exotic Star and Giraffe, great!! Well, I'd try Emmanuel for sure, if it takes you'd have some beautiful lovely shaped flowers! Now, what would you put on those 3 papilio flowers?

If you had access to any aulicum pollen that with papilio will make gorgeous flowers.

Again I have to comment on how lovely and green your papilio is! Might it be one from the Doran strain? Where did it come from, it's stunning!!

That's what I was thinking Donna. Somehow I lost the tag, but it looks different than my others so I am going to try to self it. We will see. - J

I bought one on EBay from Argyha (sp?) Gardens a few years ago that was supposed to be from the Doran strain and it was small but healthy but no flowers yet of course....if it looks like yours, I'll be over the moon!! If a self takes then I guess you could surmise that that is what you have or.. are there other clones that will self pollinate, I don't know. Anyway, it's certainly worth a try, especially since you've got a spare flower

Thank you Jodi, they are really gorgeous and will make a beautiful cross! My Emmanuelle is about to open now and the buds are quite big now too. I got it as a mislabel two years ago and I think that it was very stressed. After flowering it did nothing for one year but last spring it started to root and grow leaves again and now I have a scape with two buds. Bulbs are strange sometimes...

I have seedlings Rosario x Emmanuelle but I think they need another year to bloom.

Good luck with your pollinations! I hope you keep all the pollen of that gorgeous Papilio and try other crosses too?

my bulbs are slightly larger than a walnut in the shell, so i suspect/expect nothing this year … a shame ...

I think Donna is right and this might be the Doran strain. I have another papilio clone and another flower of the Doran clone that opened at the same time. The Doran clone is larger, more open and more red than maroon. Here they are side by side. Doran clone on left. This new scape opened low on the bulb this time. Cooler weather maybe?

Here are pics of the seed pods that I selfed. What do you think? I also pollinated the regular papilio with pollen from the Doran clone - hope springs eternal. :)

Here is a pic of Exotic Star seed pods. I polinated her with the Reginae x Neopardinum hybrid. The are huge seed pods!

This comparison picture of the two papilio with different colors is amazing!! I just love the redder one!!

Also, those seedpods are gems! Congratulations and I hope you get many good seeds; the resulting flowers should be amazing!!
