PS, show the rest of the room so folks can consider bed covering ideas based on a whole room (should you wish)?

You said that your bedding is new so I'm sure you're not ready to replace it. The painting is lovely, but from a 'decorating' standpoint, it doesn't work over the bed. Perhaps someplace else in the room or some other room in the house,

Lovely but a little small. Or else add candleholders on ea side of painting. Personally, i'd hang it elsewhere

Your bed and bedding are beautiful and, in spite of the fact that I have paintings everywhere, I would leave that area bare above your bed. It somehow looks very serene without any distraction, very cohesive. I hope there is some other place in your bedroom where you can place this painting that means so much to you. I'm not a fan of discarding a set of new and pretty bedding just to accommodate a painting, but it's your room and your decision.

Definitely hang the painting, but I'd reframe it first. It is a little small. You need a larger frame - I'd do one that brings in the grey in your lovely bedding. I think it would also bring out some nice colors in the picture.

I also would not hang anything there. I don't like anything hanging over my head while I sleep. Also, the painting is so pretty; I'd rather hang it where I could see it from the bed, waking up in the morning, reading in bed, whatever, I'd want to be able to look at the painting that has so much sentimental value.

I think it could work there if that's where you want to hang it, but I would reframe it. The color of the frame doesn't really complement your bed or bedding and I think you could find something that would work better with the art, as well. I'd look at a darker gray mat (or maybe one of the rich colors in the top of the mountain) with a wood frame closer to the bed's tones.

Is it easy to slip out of the frame? If so, take it out and set it on your bed to see what it looks like...you might see another color in the painting that would work well for a mat or frame, once that lighter wood is out of the picture (pun intended :-).

My home is filled with original oils by my late father, and I either painted all the frames or redid them to go nicely with colors of each room or space they are in, I was nervous about dad seeing them when he came to our home but was grateful that he was able to make the long trip, since he was 80 at the time. However he was very pleased and I got a very nice well done from him. He passed 7 yrs. later. I have 7 in my Mb suite and yes one is above the bed.

While I'm with those who are nervous about things hanging over them while they sleep, I'm also with those who think it's a very pretty painting that would look great over the bed in a bigger, more proportional frame.

I really like the way the gentle curves of the landscape echo the new bedding.

If you don't want to reframe, is there another spot you could tuck it in the BR?

The lovely painting certainly needs to be hung wherever you wish, but no matter where you choose it needs to be matted and reframed first! I'd take it to a frame shop along with a pillow covering from your new bedding and let a professional framer help you pick matting that will bring out colors in the painting along with a more substantial frame.

I would hang the painting there. I have had art hanging over the bed more often than not, the not being when we lived in CA and new-then DH said it was better not to.

To reframe or not is up to you. A darker frame would probably work better with your furniture and seem more design correct, but the frame may be art of the sentimental part and as is might be more perfect for you. If you do reframe, you could go a bit wider, but probably a simple frame with a linen liner or such. You don't want to overpower the painting or put anything over the bed in too heavy a frame -- not just in the odd case that it could fall, but because it can feel too heavy and/or get in the way of sitting in bed. I like simpler frames over the bed -- nothing bulky.

While I understand that hanging the painting over the bed may seem like it's hanging in a place of honor, I'd want to hang it somewhere where it can be viewed often as a reminder of the sentiment attached to it.

Your painting is lovely. I would hang it there if you don't have another suitable wall; but I do agree with other posters that the shade of the frame doesn't quite go. But: this is just the opinion from my impersonal vantage point. Items like this are what make decorating personal and your home feel like yours; as opposed to an off-the-shelf print that coordinates perfectly but doesn't have the soul that your special painting does.

We have a large painting in a large frame above our bed and I love it, but with your canopy bed I think that area looks complete without a painting. Your painting is beautiful though and it looks like the colors blend nicely with your new bedding, so I think if you like it there go for it. If you're not attached to the current frame it's in, I agree with those who've suggested having it re-framed into something more substantial, maybe with a silk or linen mat between the painting and frame.

If it goes above the bed-I wouldn't reframe it-new bigger frame plus mat would make it heavier..I'd be wary of having something heavy over my head, earthquake country or not.

I wouldn't worry that much about it not matching exactly..I'm with artemis and others on that. Besides, you can always bring small stuff into the room that will tie it better color wise..like a small throw pillow, or a lighter wooden bowl, or anything actually..repeat it, not literally, but repeat it somehow- and problem solved, even if it will be a problem which I'm not so sure about.

My only question would be-do I want to look at it when I open my eyes in the morning(and then I'd go for another wall) or do I want to look at it when I enter the room?

and it's very personal of course..only you can really answer that.
