After playing around and purchasing few items, I am still not sure if if looks great. Thoughts?

I would recommend placing a few items on top of the unit, such as a plant or candleholders, and 2 lamps on top. but a larger scale than inside the unit. I would also add more color either baskets with room colors, could remove some of the books on the bottom and place them in other areas.

    For example

I agree with breaking up the books that are on the bottom left shelf. I just happen to be watching HGTV and saw what Joanna Gaines does with books and she does break them up.

I think you'll be more than happy following decoenthusiaste's advice. I only recently saw her comment regarding being able to identify small items from a seated position. Makes total sense.

i think your shelving needs to be At least half filled with books. Definitely put something on top ....a plant which drapes on one side. I also like to mix objet d'art in with books. All the best.

Which plant would work/drop down that doesn't require too much light..this area doesn't get too much natural light

I hate to say the word philodendron because they can look ratty but if you ignore it and water about once a week (8 days) it will do well

Also you can put an orchid in low light and give it about 1/4-1/2 cup of water (avoid leaves) every week and a half say 11 days and it will you

No, it doesn't look great. You need to do two things ... decide on a theme and decide on a color palette. These two things should be based on the theme and the color palette of the rest of your house. And then the things in the case need to make sense. Examples ... does it make sense to place a picture frame on a bottom shelf where you'd have to bend over to look at it? Answer, no. Does it make sense to place a candle on shelf inside a case that would be too low to burn it? Answer, no. Does it make sense to put a live plant on a wood shelf when you know you're eventually going to over water and ruin the wood? Answer, no. You will need more items, you don't have enough stuff to fill that wall unit. Figure out your plan and then go to Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, etc and get more items.

For me it would be much easier to comment if you could show this unit from much further back...as far as that goes ...I question whether a unit like this is even needed if you have to go out and buy things for it...a display cabinet should reflect you and your interests and it's purpose is to share those things you love with others..I think what you have done is nice and the only thing I would suggest is that you consider whether all these pieces mean something to you...

Also the uniformity and size of the spaces imply storage a little more than creative display...

C Paul, thanks for your feedback..yes, I totally see you point. The problem is, I have no idea where to start, and what my theme should be. Going yo Homsense overwhelmes me...and the end result is what's on photo...lol

    looking for suggestions :-)

Look on Houzz for "bookcase arrangements" and look at how they are arranged.
