looks more like a marble or quartzite to me..

not that i'm a pro in stones, just a hunch

I wonder if you'd tire of those stripes when the novelty wears off.

I think one might tire of those stripes very quickly...especially some morning early with a hangover!

Friedajune, it's a possibility. Anglophilia--a definite possibility. But you're talking to someone who has lived with ugly 80's formica counters and cabinets for 16 years. I look forward to tiring of something different.

Striped marbles

What about white macaubas it has a stripe design but not so in your face.

This Is a marble and might be fairly maintenance heavy. Possibly have a look at Cambria Roxwell with a waterfall panel on your island?

I also vote for White Macaubas quartzite. A little harder than granite without the maintenance of a marble. There are more dramatic examples.
