Help on Kitchen Color Scheme

We're expanding our kitchen and need some help with the color scheme. The picture captures both old part (left side) and the new part (right side). The kitchen is also completely open to the new dining room and family room. The current kitchen has maple color cabinet which we will keep and the mill guy will make matching maple color cabinets along the new part of the kitchen (so U shape maple cabinets along the walls).

The question I have are:

1) what color cabinet for the island? I like white, but my husband likes darker color. I'm not sure either one goes well with the existing maple cabinets along the wall. The island will be 9x5, so there is a large footprint and large cabinet surface.

2) what color for the floor? We will go for tiles. Considering that the kitchen opens completely to the dining and family room (will have dark solid wood floor), should I go for tiles that look like wood for a smooth transition. Or should I go for tiles that look like tiles and it will be a clear separation between the rooms? If tiles, what color?

3) Countertop color? What color will go with the floor and the maple cabinets and the (unknown) island cabinet color?

Thanks you all in advance for any ideas and suggestions!
