Can you post pics of the updated cabinets? I'm confused about what is going to be blue?

The armoire doesn't really work, it looks like a tv cabinet.

I'm going to echo suedonim75 as I am interested in your project. Please post pictures of your kitchen now, as well as the piece you are hoping to use in it. The before pictures are useless for giving you advice about what to do with what you have now.

Your three inspiration pictures are quite different from each other so adding a list of your priorities for your room would probably also help.

Hi. I can't post pictures of the actual cabinets right now because I couldn't find my camera. But they are now Shaker style, light silver/blue gray (very close to the picture above (Kenilworth). The armoire is gone (hubby bought it for $30 so I could have a pantry) but that's the 60" wall. That's where I want to put the IKEA cabinets-in white. Then the island is going to be beadboard blue, almost country style (like the black one, but blue). Any thoughts are greatly appreciated and I will post tonight some more pix. Thank you!

I think the problem is there is no picture of a black beadboard island.

Is the armoir actually gone? If not, I think painting it the colour of the cabinets and centering it on the wall would be a better choice than going with white IKEA. You're right that the white would stand out strangely with the perimeter cabinets and blue island.

Instead of IKEA you could check around at second hand building stores for pantry cupboards that you can paint to match the cabs.

Hi. Please excuse the mess...just got home and also fixing dinner. So, here is the updated kitchen cabinets. I'm still working on the back splash - wide beadboard - soft green (same as walls). Also, the 60" wall now has a cabinet that my husband picked up for $25 to prove that an island wouldn't work in our kitchen (he lost the bet) and finally a picture of the island, but it's in a black stain, so you really can't see the beadboard. To the side is the actual cabinet and top cover will be. And we made the top smaller. So, the rest of the plan:

Finish trim on WIndows - Finish backsplash and move Tiffany light center over island.

The 60" wall - Ikea Bobdyn in (their)white with mostly glass doors on top and drawers on bottom. This space HAS to hold the microwave. (This is why I've included the picture of the Ikea. Just to get idea visually.)

I'm with husband on this one; you have room for an island OR the Ikea shelf. I'd choose the island, but I would tuck it against the window. Set up your coffee station on it, store all other small appliances in it, and move the microwave over to the counter by the fridge. The room will seem so much more open and pleasant.

I bought an Amish island for my smallish kitchen:)

I have 42" between island and sink, but only 36" between island and range. It works but it is a bit tight - wish my kitchen was a foot longer. The other sides of the island break the rules. The island is far enough away from the walls, but I have a microwave cart and pie safe against those walls. The island is not 36" from cart and pie-safe, but it also is not a thoroughfare.

jhmarie...Where your pie safe is...is my stove. My 60" wall and doorway is where your microwave is. Then the wall we can't see is all windows. So it's not a thoroughfare either. I think it will work. By the way, your kitchen is amazing.

One of the things I really like about my Amish island is that it is very sturdy - it won't move if I lean against it, but I can move it if I want to. I can move it around to get the best fit for the kitchen and the way I use my kitchen.
