What an odd looking flower, it looks like it's been crossed with a passionflower.

I poked around HMF and the nursery in France that was listed as selling the rose went out of business. The Rose was introduced in 2010 so it's fairly new. Google turns up nothing but French websites but I didn't translate them (using my iPad) so I don't know if there's more info or not.

This appears to be a Dutch (?) forum discussion on this rose in 2016. Again, needs translation as I can't figure out how to translate from my iPad. And, Didn't realize it was just the one post at that link. Sorry.

Thanks, Carolina Girl. First link basically says it is quite new, often flowering, strong fragrance. Second link had no new information except that the blooms are large. If I ever find one, I'll be sure to post it here.

Oh, flowers, what an intriguing and beautiful rose, like no other I've seen. I hope you find out more information on it. But I'm sure that it won't be available here--they never are. Thanks for posting the photos. Diane

It's gorgeous and so unique. I wonder what the parentage is! All I could find was "Zufallssämling" which is just another way to say, "chance seedling."

I am somewhat bothered, how memorable that rose is. And how I'm plotting how to ask a friend in France (it's not at his nursery) about it, without seeming pushy.

Just ask him... "So what can you tell me about this rose and is it still being grown for sale". I'm sure he'd be happy to help you. And then have him ship a container full for us. ;)

Carolina Girl, that was some fine sleuthing. At least we know Trelaze is in commerce. I'm waiting on a reply from the nursery you found, but not getting my hopes up that they can ship to the US. Pat at RU has many French roses; maybe if we all let her know we're interested and would buy one or more, she will start the process to get it.

It seems Roses Loubert's roses are grafted onto what they call 'a unique rootstock - rosa laxa'. The advantages are: 'good vigor, cold resistance, resistance to drought, suitable for all terrains including limestone, long life expectancy'. There is info about rosa laxa on HMF, and it also comes up in several other places by googling. I have not read them yet.

In the forum link you provided, I love that they refer to the center of Trelaze as it's inner life.

It can't hurt to let Pat at Roses Unlimited know if you're interested in Souvenir de Trelaze since she has a source for French roses. With the process taking years, it won't be anytime soon, but maybe someday.....
