This does look like a raised board and batten wainscoting that is typical in many craftsman style homes.

It looks like a raised a panel in this picture but it is actually 3/8 birch plywood layed over the sheetrock, 1x6 base, 1x4 vertical pieces, a 1x4 top rail, and a 2" cap made of 1x pine. We did not put any moulding in the squares, we were trying to keep with the original design of this 1930's house in Candler Park Ga. Pics of the whole house are on our website.
