Need help for my foyer/entry!!! Rounded staircase is making it tough.
Comments (13)Here's the link to the floating unit I had in mind for your alcove. This would be a custom made unit so making it just the 12" deep is no problem. I don't think you need anything else there. Your foyer is beautiful and so is the floor. Sometimes.....a lot of the time, less is more, you don't need to fill the space just because you have it, after all it's a foyer. The floating unit Is fastened on the sides and the back. I think it would be perfect for your spot. Enjoy the link, I had the privilege of being invited into this home this past summer, it's just amazing. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lindal-cedar-homes/6772667791/sizes/m/in/set-72157629059105783/...See MoreHELP. Mudroom v. Windows?
Comments (2)Windows are a big deal for most people, so I'd go with good picture windows--preferably that open so they can help cool your house in summer. Insulation isn't terribly expensive, and you might be able to do it yourself if you use foam board and then sheetrock or wood. If you get cheap pine boards (8" wide x 1/2" or 3/4" thick), and nail them horizontally on your walls (with the foam board behind), it has a VERY cool look and helps insulate. You can varnish them, stain them, paint them (paint with primer) or color wash them (water down paint, no more than 50% paint, paint it on, then wipe it off). The more knots and irregularities in the wood the better. Check out the latest Pottery Barn catalogs--they have photos of rooms with horizontal wood walls. We did both upstairs bedrooms this way in a 103 year old house with a "hot roof" (i.e. no attic or air space for insulation). It really helped, and looked great....See Morefireplace blocking view of water
Comments (8)i'm new to Houzz and so tried to post pictures but i think it may have gone to a new discussion thread. Thank you for all your interest. I think the biggest dilemna is whether opening the space to the screened in gazebo/ porch behind the wall is a good idea. You can see through it to water, but you are looking now into an outdoor scrrened in gazebo, not just a water view....See MoreArugula seeds for trade
Comments (0)I have a bunch of arugula seeds that I would love trade. Variety is unknown (a family friend gave me the seeds) but grew them in my garden last fall and this spring and they have good flavor. Am wanting to trade for heirloom/OP seeds for vegetables and/or culinary herbs Let me know if interested :) - Abigail...See Morejim1961 Zone 6a Central Pa.
