Need help with gable design

Our framing stage is complete but I am not ok with the gable on the right, over what is the garage window (close to the center of the picture). It looks too tiny for the amount of roof that is there. The framers have agreed to redo it by essentially pulling the edge of the gable forward, closer to the edge of the hip, thus increasing the surface area of the gable, where there will be shingled siding. Will this be enough?

Do you agree and do you have other suggestions? Here's a photo before the gable went up.

Maybe you will like the gable more once all the siding is on and everything in place. But I do like the look of it a little bigger. On the rendering, it looks like it is closer in scale to the front door gable. And visually, I think it will help for the right gable to have a bigger presence than what the actual appears to be so far. I do think it will help to extend the edges out, which will increase the surface area for shingles to go. IMO, you need a bigger presence of shingles there to balance all the shingles on the left side. I think you can have the gable larger than the bump out if you wanted to. It would just be a bigger "hat" than a smaller hat. ;-)

That said, making a big change will likely cost you, so it might be worth going with the smaller modifications they are willing to do for you.

Beverly, that looks so much better. I'll show it to my husband and my builder. The bump out with the window will be stone and on either side of it is siding. With a gable that covers the expanse of the wall, do you think those materials need to be rethought?

Also, I think what they intended was to keep it the width of the bump out, just closer to the edge. It would be a bit bigger, but not like this photo.

This will have to be your decision, but I like the larger gable.

The larger gable looks great.....I would ask the builder if they could do something closer to that.

Where is all the stone propsosed to be on the front? The bump out section, and where else? And then the rest of the house lap siding, with shingles on the gables? Do you have a rendering of the elevation showing the siding?

CLC, here are the elevations so you can see the proposed materials. My only concern with the larger gable is that the edge of the roof line (aka edge of the hip?) will not be even because of the bump out.

Thanks, CLC. Every day has been like Christmas, seeing the daily progress, and then this threw me for a curve. There have been a few little things already that I've let go of, but I'm struggling with this one! Thanks for the reminder--I really don't want to let one peeve ruin everything I like about it!
