I always like to combine one panel of curtain plus several shears It looks just as mice as expensive curtains at lower cost.

You need curtains unless you remove the blinds. I think of blinds as being functional not decorative. You do not want your lovely room to be ruined by mini-blinds.

Good balance and colours, but the art and mirror are hung too high. The room would come together better if 6-8 inches of the sofas came on to the rug.

I would choose some neutral panels for the window. I agree that the horse photo is hung way too high. I feel a little off balance with the 2 different shade colors for the lamps and I think the couch could benefit from various patterns in the pillows rather than them all being the exact same. The small seats seem extremely close to the fireplace area (no walk space). My choice would be to ditch them and add a fluffy pillow that looks like those chairs to your couch instead. The mirror above the fireplace seems a bit plain, like it needs something else with more of a statement. Overall, I think the room could be really great with just a few tweaks. Best of luck!

Pretty space! Doesn't look like you have a whole lot of room to stack sheers or panels on either side and would be a pain on the door side. I think your best best would be some pretty Roman shades. Here are a few:

I second the art hung too high. I didn't want to say anything because you've done such a nice job :) I had to google it myself when I hung a large canvas over sofa it's suggested 8-10" above sofa.

If you like the versatility of the blinds with light control and privacy maybe just upgrade to some chunky white plantation shutters.

I love your room and would do Roman Shade in a modern type colorful print fabric, and add one long pillow in same fabric on each sofa.

These are NOT turquoise but this pattern and banding are stunning design wise in a fabric/that will work with your windows. Or you can do solid centers and printed banding.

This is the pattern type I had in mind but it depends on what you like! It will be a small area but will add some energy to the room and contrast.

Love your colors and texture, so pretty. I'd say lose the blinds and go for either roman shades or plantation shutters. About the comments regarding height of art, maybe switching the horse art and the mirror would feel more balanced. If you come across another pillow or two with more pattern I'd throw those on your sofa too, but overall your room looks great!

Thanks everyone for appreciating the room! The mirror is high because my original post here ( a few weeks ago) was addressed to covering up a huge strange niche on the fireplace which is basically what the mirror is concealing :) since this is a rental, I can't and don't want to do anything permanent hence the height of the mirror has to stay because it has to cover the niche. About the art, I could certainly move that down a couple of inches but the reason why I didn't was because I was balancing that with the mirror so that the mirror alone doesn't stand out too high! A lot of you have suggested a different pattern for throw pillows.. what color and pattern do you have in mind ? I could do the same pattern in maybe black and grey? I do want to keep the look a little formal and want to stay away from casual prints etc. if possible, please share some pics. The reason why I haven't done curtains is the landlord who insists on no holes in the walls for rods :( so please suggest some alternatives? Thanks

Horse should go over fireplace and mirror over sofa...looking good...Roman shades in a natural woven would bring texture and warmth to your space...

Pillows like this would be lovely and keep the room more formal..

Yes to sheer/panel or both. There are double rods. Door panel that needs rods on both ends. Make sure on mini blinds to tilt them upwards. So no one looks in.

Nice job on the room! The window area looks unfinished because it doesn't have any trim around it. I don't think you have enough room to hang curtains. I'd add trim and replace the blinds with thick faux wood blinds.

Swap mirror and the horse but hang mirror lower, add trim to your window to match the door and get some plantation shutters, room is not big enough for curtains of any kind, you could consider Roman blinds as well, my 2nd choice.

I agree with the roman shades idea and to lowering the horse art. I would add another color to the room though, perhaps just a touch of yellow or red. It would add a bit of spice.

Grover, I like what you've done, but I agree that I would like to see the art over the fireplace.

Either swap mirror a art or turn the mirror in a portrait position.

Ok I didn't see that , it would look better to move mirror above the sofa and get a colourful painting that would fit in the recess . To me it would make more sense then to try to cover it with a mirror that looks a bit out of place. The artwork doesn't need to be as big as the recess something square would work , I am not talking about expensive stuff, just cheap copy in a nice frame. Another think you could do is get a piece of mirror that is the same size as the back wall of the recess and stick it in with Velcro tape . That would give you a little shelf for candles or books and magazines. Candles look great in front of the mirror it doubles the effect.

Ahh the mirror is to cover the tv niche. I don't mind the mirror, but could also see various art and things there as well.

Now I understand the mirror. I'd say keep it, looks cleaner than trying to fill the niche with art and stuff. Do you need the blinds? Didn't realize it was a rental so plantation shutters are off the table. I'd say take them down and hang neutral drapery panels or maybe closed sheers if you need the privacy. If you mount the rod at ceiling height the mirror will look more proportioned over the fireplace. You can get magnetic rods to hang a French panel on your door so you aren't adding holes on the door.

Just noticed your ceiling height is really high so scratch my advise about hanging panels at ceiling height.

You could get someone to build you a small book shelf / case and just slot it in the wall cavity. If you are a handy person you can do it yourself.
