Window Replacement Cost in Los Angeles

I received a cost for replacing 17 windows and 3 sliding doors in Los Angeles.

The windows are low-e dual paned Delmar windows made by Anlin.

2 of windows are picture windows, 10 ft by 4 ft fixed picture window on top of 10 ft by 1 ft sliders (so 10ft by 5ft total).

The inside of these 10 ft long windows will be tempered 3/16th glass.

There is another window that is 5 ft by 5ft and is similar.

Remaining all other windows are 4x4ft or 4x3ft dual paned low-e windows (except for 2 bathroom windows which will be 3x3 ft).

All windows have argon gas and come with lifetime warranty.

The cost for all with installation and warranty is $18,000. The company has been operating in the Los Angeles area for nearly 20 years and has 5 star ratings on angie's list and yelp. They will also pull permits.

Is this a good pricing?

Also, is this a good option for the picture windows? There is a 4-5 inch bar breaking up the windows about 12 inches from the bottom. Are there other better options.

The price seems reasonable, but I would go by the reviews of the specific company, not by someone's opinion here.

As for the window choice, it looks like you've requested ones that can open to get some air flow. If you don't want the opening section, tell them you want picture windows, not ones that can open.

It's not a deal breaker either way, but the picture windows would look higher end.

The existing windows are low profile and show off the view. The new white ones have a bulky appearance that emphasizes them, not the view. They also look cheap. Please explore other models.

The existing windows are aluminum. The me ones are vinyl, and due to their size, I believe they need to be thicker.

dont mean to be judgemental, but i agree, why replace the windows? unless they have cracks or need to be bullet proofed at that price, i dont see why go through the hassle of changing something that looks fine and functions

if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I can't get around not changing them.

The windows are single-pane from 1969. Some of them look like they are about to fall out! A few of the frames are missing one of the windows too.

The large picture windows have about an inch gap between the windows when closed, caused by bowing of the aluminum.

There are no locks on the large picture windows, and I don't my kids falling out - it's a 20 ft drop.

if you lived in CA you would never ask why are you relacing those old , sharp edged, single pane AL windows. The sun bakes through that old glass and turns homes into ovens. I do agree with not using vinyl widows, if you can afford a better product. I often wonder how long vinyl will last in that hot CA sun? Great view...Good luck.

Thanks for info. Milgard Windows are very popular in my area of CA. They may have some good designs that are comparatively child safe. You might look at some that have openable windows at the top, not the bottom, of the fixed windows. That will allow you to let hot air out but keep the open area out of easy reach of small children.
