I think painting emphasizes the hinges. Your cabinets are very nice---a simple and IMO timeless design.

This kitchen is at the beach and really needs some color. I like stained cabinets myself, but think a creamy yellow will really give the kitchen a great look. The original plan was to get new doors without visible hardware. Maybe that is the best way to go.

If it were me, I would do the white chalk paint. I used it on the frame of my old brown mirror rather than buying a whole new one. It cuts costs that could be spent on other decor for the house.

Ruining that nice upscale wood with a crappy craft fail isn't going to work more than very short term. Beach also means wood. Think of ships. Add lots of white, and better lighting.

I totally agree with the idea of painting! Although not necessarily with chalk paint. I have used chalk paint both Annie Sloan and mixing my own! For a durable kitchen cabinet paint job, I recommend first of all, taking the time to prep,prep, prep.
Clean and lightly sand, use a good primer, and finally a good self leveling paint. I just painted my daughters kitchen cabinets white and it turned out great! I used Sherwin Williams products, but I'm sure other reputable brands have the same type of product . And I love the idea of yellow! Good luck!

how about painting the knotty pine white to brighten up your space? the cabinets look like good quality and I think they're beautiful. if you do decide to paint them I also wouldn't go with chalk paint as I have seen it not hold up well on cabinets. we just painted our kitchen cabinets white about a year ago. we used rustoleum professional oil based enamel meant for industrial applications. we also used oil based primer and went through all the steps of prep work you can imagine. they are stunning now and I'm so happy with the results. it would be a shame to go through any work painting your already beautiful cabinets to have the durability fail. good luck and let us know what you decide!

I like the idea of painting the knotty pine to brighten up the space….maybe even with the color I was planning on for the cabinets. The cabinets are in good shape, even though the hinges on the doors are outdated.
