i would get brighter colored lamps, in either gold, silver or blush pink like you like

the shades get in bright white

suggest you get white or cream sheers on the windows to let light in. the room doesnt look like it gets too much natural light so sheers is the way to go

i know you cant change out carpet but you could get a plush or fur rug to go beneath your feet. it will feel so cozy and very feminine and girly

i like your pink bedding but i think the walls should be a brrighter color. i think it doesnt fit best with the pink, the revere pewter that is.

notice i didnt say it doesnt fit, just isnt the best fit...

I like pink and I do like color as well . I have this reversible bedding from pottery barn.
I don't think bedding is the issue it's the furniture and decor.

I would try to cut down on the dark woodiness of it all. Keep the bed (why not, it's lovely and you like it), but swap out those dark picture frames and the night stands (they can be end tables elsewhere in the house). Get some painted finishes and glass in the room (lamps)--glass shimmers, and is in keeping with the natural finish/style if wood but contrasts at the same time.

And curtain panels. Then you're good to go.

You could paint room a soft, pretty pink or blush color for a brighter feel. Maybe a pink from PB bedding. Paint is easy to change. I'd hang your pictures (or new bright colored ones) above nightstands. Best of luck to you.

since you said that you dont need the pictures, i would change them out. they look a little depressing to me. if you like them its ok keep them dont listen to me but in general i feel personally they just exist and dont give off a warm feeling

id get a brighter set of frames in shiny metallics or white wood, antique white color. with art you like or happier pictures.

then if you dont mind the nightstands gone i would put them somewhere else in the house and get new mirrored nightstands. to reflect light. and give a new vibe.

these i found for you are really dirt cheap and still beautiful.

thank you all for the advice. hearing it from others makes you think. everyone sees things differently. I agree about the darkness never thought that before. and the lamps being brighter and lighter. I'm going to change a lot starting with paint color and sourcing out the other things. just have to pick a color. the rest of my home is Natural Cream Benjamin Moore.

Full ceiling height drapes will give the room a different sense of proportion while softening the room (without making it frilly). Try larger bedside tables/chests with larger lamps.

those lamps i posted are a little expensive but if you search for pink and gold lamps you should be able to find them. try homegoods. do you have one in your area?

Winners/Homesense. I did look but lots were really short not tall. Looking for a drum pendent too or something different. What about those orb looking chandeliers . Do you think something like that would work.

Without spending too much money and having to buy new furniture pieces, I would put up bright ceiling-to-floor curtains making sure to hang them where they cover no part of the window when they are open. I would either add a round silver/gold mirror above your headboard and replace the pictures above the nightstands with happier, brighter ones and hang them up, or put a bright, happy picture above the headboard and put silver/gold mirrors above the nightstands. I would replace the lamps with larger, brighter (maybe clear ones with white shades) ones that match your decor. I would get rid of that dark chair in the corner or replace it with a brighter colored one. I would add a large white (or light colored) plush area rug horizontally beneath your bed and put a faux sheepskin chair cover over your bench seat. I would put your armoire at an angle and replace your vase with 2 larger vases (one larger than the other), or a chunky 3-piece candle holder set (in light/bright color) to go next to the tv. That dark mirror by the closet door needs to go or can be replaced with a pretty full-length mirror. The idea is to add light and bright girly accessories to make it yours and to brighten it up.

I think Luxe home living was making good points. More light, white and dust pink (the right shade of dust pink or it can look sad and trashy..)
I would focus on adding a chandelier and a light rug from now (yes rug on carpet works) and move the bedroom from dark/ masculine to lighter through the lamps, the rug and the bedding for a start. I would also consider changing the dark wood furniture at some point but your call.

And drapes (I would go for white linen)

And if you can't spend money on changing the furniture you could already change the mirror, the bedside lamps and the art frame to remove all the dark wood and replace by a mix of white and metallic. You don't need to have everything matching as long as you have more than one piece in the same material.

That would already lighten up your room as the dark wood is really everywhere right now

which orb chandeliers? can you post a picture?


they dont have to look like those blush colored ones but they should be big enough atleast 27 inches and they should be light colors like pink, white,crystal, etc and you can always switch out the shades if you want a different style!

i know lots of designers like lampsplus.com you can check thm out and if you can search online for "feminine" lamps.

i can look for some cheaper ones you can order online. whats your budget??

they both look nice. its really your preference as to what you want and will like. anything bright really would work but just make sure they have a feminine feel to it.

i think the drum shade one in that picture is nice. you can always buy a lamp you like and buy another drum shade online for less than 20 bucks.

crystals look nice too, i like the first orb one but its black...not a problem but the more light and airy and bright things you have the better you might feel.

the suggestion you want is to get rid of your previous married evidence if you know what i mean, so changing the feel to the room will help.

The second one of your last drum works the other I would say are still a bit too dark because of the dark iron. I really like the pic of the bedroom you posted

Everyone on this post gave such amazing advice! I always tell me clients before purchasing anything, you really have to come up with a design plan to not end up overspending or having a ton of different design elements in one room, and you end up not getting the finish or end result you hoped for. This is your master suite and you just made a life change, not only is this a big step but a rewarding one.

I suggest consulting with a design professional first so they can pull the look together or for you to create a plan so you can get your whole scope in line.

Since you like feminine bedroom you could replace you light fixtures for romantic chandelier and hang smaller ones on each side of the bed instead your lamps. You need to brighten it up a bit there is to much black in there.

Richie Madison Interiors thank you. yes it is a big change. I need to do this. For me. Everyone has made me look at my room very differently now. I want to get it right. starting with painting. Any suggestions of paint color? The black has to be toned down.I agree. Looking at getting a padded headboard.

Painting can be a pain. Why not curtains of pink? and other pinks, nice. With layer over the red, could work...sometimes you see red and pink together [esp. if your set is dark].

The right red or pink of toile at window?

With your bedding would a strawberry curtain work, mixed with new lamp, etc.?

If you color-waxed your current bases, add a burlap in rosy?

Paint color wouldn't mean much if your lighting isn't right, and the decor and furnishings or that tufted headboard that doesn't coordinate with the look. You may want to move. I got the house in my divorce, eventually sold it, and am glad I did. My ex is a fine person, but I want to give her as little free rent in my head as possible. My girlfriend's place on the water with the dolphins swimming past is much nicer anyway.

Paint the picture frames and hang the pictures on the wall. Paint the mirror frame the same color. New ceiling light. Change out the drawer knobs to something shinier or prettier. You can also paint the lamps and get new shades. Do you use the bench at the end of the bed? I would move it somewhere else if not. Once you find bedding you love, pull a creamy color out of that and paint the walls.
