oak floors with walnut?

my home has the 1 1/2" oak floors from the 1930's and I am remodelling the kitchen. i am trying to stay true to the time but thinking of stained cabinets to avoid "too much white". would walnut cabinets work with oak flooring? i would appreciate your thoughts. thank you.

Walnut is a grey brown base, oak seems to favor yellow tones. If you were re-staining the oak i would go with a grey tone, if not have you thought of quater sawn white oak? It has a straight grain and would fit in well with the period. Regards, Susan
