Marble is not durable in any way. It will stain. It will etch. It doesn't matter how often you seal it or how careful you are. Personally, I would be alright with the patina, but most people aren't.

I think White Carrara Marble looks beautiful. I put it in my old house a couple years ago and I am looking to do it again in home I am currently in with a light gray cabinet. How this helps.

This thread is old and possibly no longer relevant but we did a renovation in February and went with white cabinets and Carrara marble counters. Zero stains, and we've spilled quite a bit on it. Some verrrrryyyyy minor scratches, and two etches which were both preventable but spilled pineapple juice went unnoticed (neither is noticeable unless you look at the exact right angle). We both agree that we would 100% do it again, probably without even considering other materials. We have a 4 year old. I attached a picture of our worst etch from two angles.
