Hi everyone. I'm trying to identify this lawn weed. It grows in patches and when I tried digging some of them out there seems to be a deep root system with garlic-like bulbs. I can currently spot the patches because this weed has grown significantly in the last 2-3 weeks while the grass is still dormant from the winter. I am located in Northern NJ.

How do I control/kill it? Should I try to dig them out and reseed the spots with new lawn seeds?
