We have a very oversized fireplace in a narrow family room. We are converting it to a casualy elegant dining room. We removed the hearth and had a piece of black pearl granite out in. It didn't look good and the wood floor surrounding the hearth space is uneven. So we are thinking of putting tile or marble. We also want to cover above and below the firebox and wood holder and the large wall of brick to the right with white wood paneling (like wainscoting). Anyone have any suggestions for tile or marble and how it would look?
