I would do an off white (a white with warm undertones) rather than a stark white to match. I think espresso and other dark colors make a small room seem smaller.

With the high ceilings and openness, you could go either way. I could see white in your space but also would like some contrast!

I would do white also. Mine were cherry and I painted them white and I absolutely love it. We have similar color walls and floor tile.

a soft white and repaint those yellow/gold walls. with such a large expanse, you could do a more contrasting color w/the lighter cabinets. do some stainless steel bar hardware and perhaps paint the island a different tone.

Since the maple tone is carried into other places in the home, I would opt for a warm white.

I am most definitely going to repaint the walls as the yellow isn't working for me. The whole entire house is yellow... all the bedrooms, the bathrooms, living, dining room... etc. I was thinking very light tan and very light greys for neutral tones thus making it easier to decorate/match our existing furniture.

Would those two wall color options be a problem with warm white cabinets?

Tans, creams, light beige wall colors - would work better with the warm floors and countertops. A gray would need to be one that read "warm" - often the grays with a green undertone are warmer.

I might suggest that you repaint your walls before you even consider your cabinets, countertops or floor. By the way, maple is a beautiful wood - is there any other maple in the house? Whatever - do the simple first before making a commitment to the more difficult (expensive).

Realistically, you could enlarge your island countertop. Obviously some supports would have to be done, but you could make it another foot longer. They have pre-fabricated granite,quartz, marble and even butcher block that would fit that space, for under $500. then you just hire someone to install and cut out the stove insert.

Painting the island a darker shade and topping it with a walnut butcher block, would look nice if you do the others in a white.

Thank you Beth. I do want to enlarge the island eventually for sure :) we have to spend a huge chunk of money to professionally install recessed lighting (currently it's extremely dim inside and these large spaces are lit by spot lights from the 80s.)

Hopefully within the next couple of years, we can enlarge the island, retile the kitchen floor, stain the hardwood floors, etc. :)

I would recommend a warm gray on the walls with and off white on the cabinets with a black or charcoal backslash for contrast and stainless steel or Chrome hardware on the cabinets!!and the island maybe a darker stain!
