Hot Water Recirculating pump

Need Advice.. We are installing Tanlkless Water Heater and the Master bathroom is on the far end of the house. My contractor advice is to install Hot Water Recirculating pump. He is quoting $3200 for this. Is it worth installing the recirculating pump and is the quote sounds reasonable. Would appreciate your advice.

My recirculating pump , installed, was $600 a few years ago & I live in an area where estimates are notoriously higher. Are you sure that's not a quote for both the tankless heater & recirculating pump??? Yes, I love the recirculating pump since our house is very long & narrow & the water heater is approximately 75' from our master bath.

I would get another estimate after your water heater is installed.... sounds way too high to me! Mine was installed a few years after my water heater was installed, after the fact.

I have the tankless and my master is on the complete other side. it's a pain. takes about a minute to get the hot water. Heck, it takes 15-20 secs to get hot water 4 feet away from it! I like that it saves space, but actually hate the damn thing.

3200 is high. is that for everything? I'm going to ask my plumber friend (he did our tankless for about 1500) about this pump.

IMO the best is 2 tanks each one near where the water is wanted.

The estimate sounds high to me, as well. I also like the idea of adding a separate tank for long distances. You might also consider a Navien tankless with built-in recirc pump, this could also help reduce costs.

I don't know why 2 tanks necessary, my one traditional water heater (not tankless) is , as I stated, at least 80' from my master bath & is downstairs in a detached garage, with my recirculating pump I have almost instant hot water throughout my house, including the master bath.

so i asked my plumber. he said the price you quoted is about right for everything. tankless, pump and install.

Bailey, how does your pump work and where did you put it? my master bath is a long ways from the garage. all my pipe go up through the attic and down. does your tankless switch on and off to keep the hot water ready?

I also have my tankless and it's far from my master so we got the circulation pump.... does it then have to run constantly? That's how ours is set up but it's in the garage that shares a wall with our kitchen and the noise drives me bananas!

ok that's my next question. does it make that same awful noise? I like to work on stuff in the garage and I hate when someone inside takes a shower. I have to listen to that thing for 10 mins.

Beth H, mine has a built in timer, I set it for "on" @ 5 am off @ midnight. Mine is silent, never noticed any noise. Mines attached to my water heater.
