Hood and cabinet gap

I feel like there is too big of a space between the upper cabinets and the hood. Without widening the cabinets to help close the gap, is there something else we can do to make it look better? I'm concerned about where my subway tile will transition to the wall behind the hood. Need suggestions quickly please!!!

I actually think it looks really nice as is. I've seen a number of photos where the vent hood does not meet the cabinets. In some instances they run the tile to the ceiling in that area, otherwise they choose one of the natural stopping points on the hood or cabinet to end the tile. I would not widen the hood or cabinets if it were my kitchen.

Most hoods have some space, & I think yours looks fine! Some people have filled in that space with wood.

It seems the natural place for your subway tile to end is at the bottom rim of your hood. If you frame your tile with an edge, it'll look more intentional. I'll see if I can find a pic.

i'd end the tile anywhere in the ' horizontal band zone' at the bottom of the hood, with a whole tile. no reason to force yourself to end in a particular place if it requires you to cut the tiles.

I would run tile up to top edge of cabinets. No medallion over range.

Assume the vent pipe will be enclosed with Sheetrock and painted. Is hood at proper height over stove top? Consult specifications for vent in hood. They are available on line.

Thank you all so much for reassuring me it's not that big of a deal! We've already purchased medallion tile for above the range, so hopefully we can make that work.

You cannot widen the hood because it normally is the same size as the cooktop
