I have a soft creamy beige in my oak kitchen, just enough color to set off the white trim. Pics are in my "my pics" idea book. Other colors that look good with oak are cream, blues and greens.

I don't have any backlash that needs to be painted my backlash is the same as my granite I just have some walls that need to be painted

The only walls that need to be painted are the two in the picture and a small section over the kitchen window

I don't believe you have oak cabs. those look like stained maple or birch.

creamy beige would be nice. or try one of these buttery shades. that canary yellow is way too bright for that room.

I don't necessarily mean that I want a lighter color unless that is what is recommended I'm looking also for maybe a color that will light up the room also

Yes, beige and do consider the floor so it won't end up looking pink.

Look at Sherwin Williams Hubbard Squash, a muted yellow. Painted my stairwell with it and it's gorgeous. On my monitor it looks icky, so you will need to go to store and get a sample.

My first thought was cream or taupe but that's because that's what I tend to gravitate towards. My kitchen when I moved in was a sagey green color. It was pretty but not my taste. I wound up painting it creamy beige but it was a nice warm color. I think your cabinets and counters need a warmer color than a bright yellow. If your cabinets were white I think the yellow would have worked.
