A few photos after weekend yard work

I did a little yard work this weekend and am sharing a few photos while it still looks nice :>) I used the weed eater to run down the grass real short around my trees and sparingly applied some composted chicken manure and then spread some Back To Nature composted cotton burrs over the top. Most of the regulars probably know I don't spray herbicides around my trees so this is my alternative. Sure is nice to see all the fresh leaves before the whiteflies and leaf miners appear!

The yard in general

A Ponderosa tree hedge in the making...hoping to mask the back yard neighbor's defunct swimming pool some day.

And, lastly, a little Ponderosa that survived the winter uncovered. It's growing in a pile of wood shavings from another hobby. This will be a nice place for a tree but it's also an experiment in grass control and fungal resistance. I'm amazed at how well Ponderosas do in the really wet parts of my yard. This one is in a higher location but the sawdust is surely making for a wet trunk...we shall see.

Thanks Laura! I guess we all wish we had more space except when it comes time to mow and trim. I have a little over a half acre. I wish I could move all the work I have invested over to a 20-acre place somewhere! Too many neighbors here (actually have good neighbors though) and I don't like a road in the front yard.

That yard looks immaculate John! What a day well spent. I cant wait until this semester is over so I can tackle my yard. Those trees look so healthy! You are treating them right for sure! I would love to grow a ponderosa one day.

It's looking good! I am still working on all the new home owner projects and hopefully will catch up one day. :D

Thanks for the kind words, my yard still has a long way to go and always will I guess.

You know, of all the different fruit I grow here....lemons, oranges, kumquats. tangerines, pecans, figs, pomegranate, and Japanese plums....the citrus are the only ones I can leave on the tree to enjoy at my leisure. The pecans, figs, pomegranate, and Japanese plums are scarfed off by the squirrels and birds almost as fast as they mature.

Hooray for the citrus!
