I think the white pillars, sidelights and garage doors are too stark--color should be changed to complement the brick better.

And replace the shrubs in front of the house--and add flowers!

Not sure about the shutters--as it is now they are hard to see.

Try trim in bm abalone and deeper shutter tone . . bm eagle rock . . i think, darkest shade bm bear creek is perhaps too deep but is in the right color family . .

You could go to a softer mid tone shutter like bm shale so it contrasts out against the deeper brick . . appears lighter . .that could be beautiful but then you will want to give your front door a color so it has a cottage-y appearance . . maybe a plum or plum red to work with the faded fascia board . . purple undertones are going to be nice with the taupe brick . .consider painting your garage doors a deeper shade to match the existing shutters / brick . . that will be more elegant . .

I think adding flowers along the walkway would be nice and if you don't want to get rid of the shrubs, they should be reduced in size. Also, adding some flowers in front of the shrubs would layer nicely and soften their look.

The shutters are getting lost as they are too close to the brick colour but if you change them to increase contrast you'll need to work with the other trim colours but maybe a the dark slate grey would suit it nicely.

My initial reaction was the same as teresale2013. You need to get rid of the stark white and repaint with a tan color (match the lightest tone in your brick). The one above looks like it could work. Regarding the shutters, I would remove them entirely as they date the house. A red door like above would look great, as well.

Well, I vote for keeping the shrubs because in winter you won't have flowers.

Shorter shrubs and new lower beds in front of the shrubs and along walk way would look great. Find some flowers that are the same shade as your trim/door, and then add contrasting flowers. Note that new flower beds will need care and attention, whereas shrubs are low maintenance.

I'd keep the shutters as it gives you an opportunity to lighten up the front of the house.

Painting the eaves looked good in Nancy's mock up though not sure the $ involved in that.

Currently I think the amount of contrast between the pillars and the shutters is too much. Maybe because there is little else in white. Maybe that's why nancy's change appeals to me.

Alternatively I guess you could change pillars and door trim to match shutters if that is feasible (not sure if those are paintable surfaces).

I'd pick a front door colour that is not so dark (like current navy). If the pillars, trim and shutters are neutral I'd go for a pop of colour on the door so your eye knows where to go (rest) when it scans the house

Because the house is long with straight lines, replacing the straight hedge with small bushes with flowers in front might soften things up. Bushes like potentilla remain fairly short and add a bit of colour.

I'm not sure what climate you are in so these bushes may not be for your area, other bushes with some colour: fothergilla (bigger-white flower then coloured leaves fall), hydrangeas (large flowers summer) , some of the small mock oranges (white spring), mugo pines (stay relatively small and green colour in winter), Ilex (green winter, red berries) etc. I'd mix a bunch of these so you have some colour in fall and winter in addition to the flowers others suggested you add.

I'd further suggest that if you look at the front of your home --the pillars divide the house into 5 sections--I'd recommend you have no bushes in the two outer sections (near rightmost and leftmost windows) , that you put bushes and flowers in the 2nd and 4th section. In this way, the bush and flowers would be closer to the 3rd section with the door. This again draws the eye to the center of your home/front door which generally is pleasing effect I think.

I'm not sure what the rest of the front yard looks like, but a tree would be nice.

Great suggestions/ideas everyone! I am going to look at some of the options presented to see what works best. I personally don't like the shrubs, I was also thinking creating a seating area would be nice.

The shrubs aren't too bad, I think they would be nicer with more planting so they are the backdrop, not the focus. A tree with light bark like a paper birch or river birch could be pretty. Or face them with ornamental grasses, or similar.

Agree with suggestions to paint facia and pillars in a soft cream color, would also remove shutters and paint trim around windows in same color. Pop of color (what colors do you like?)on door and paint the door sidelights same as door. Paint garage doors in a dark color to blend with brick. As far as landscape, agree to remove bushes and those plant in center ( not sure what they are, but it doesn't look like they are getting proper light.). Mariaed has some great suggestions on what to plant. I would also widen the bed and make it a soft curve coming from sidewalk. Check with your local nursery for planting suggestions and pay attention to the kind of light you get in front. Good luck. Nice house with great potential!

I would go with a red that has some orange undertones.
You will have to see colors in person. They don't show true here.
Bring home lots of chips, even some you think are wrong. Best to look at against your house in your lighting.
I still recommend removing the shutters. Just give it a try...you can always rehang.

The colors with the brown brick on your trim are all off. You need to lighten it up with a softer color palate instead of harsh white with the dark brown brick. You also need to clean your roof shingles and beef up the columns, they are too dinky. But you need landscape and side walk to your front door from the street so your eye can find the front door. You also need a more substantial front door and I'd put on better garage doors or paint them so they recede not "pop"

Start with a much larger doormat! At least twice as wide as the one you have.

The evergreens look fine but the yellow leaved bushes look like they need iron and pruning low to make them fill out. While they fill in add lots of colorful annuals. Use purples pinks and whites if you paint door plum or wine color. Add urns or big pots on either side of door.

I would use libra designeye's colors and also paint the fascia trim same taupe color as columns, garage doors and sidelights. if you do a more red than purple on door and shutters use more red flowers.

It's dark under your porch. How about a light, bright and happy color like teal blue or yellow.

We have no idea what color Salute is. Perhaps if you post another photo of painted door people could guide you. Black seems too dark to me but you know my opinion of the shutters so I'm not the one to recommend a color. Do you plan on repainting the trim, garage doors, pillars, facia?
