Yes, my understanding is that most hoods at this size require a make-up air system, which would be an HVAC thing, I'd think. Something that gives some source of air for the blower other than making your house into a vacuum hood. No idea what it entails, other than $$...

Be ready for a shock. Let's say you have a 10" round duct with a 1000 cfm blower pushing air out of your house. It should make sense that you would also need at least a 10" round hole in the wall to bring air back into the house. But, in order for a 10" round duct that brings air back into the house to keep up with a 1000 cfm blower, it would need an equally powerful blower for the makeup air. If you try to go with a passive (no blower) system and gravity dampers, the hole(s) in the outside wall of the house would need to be more like 6- 10" round holes or more.
