I was very sad that my phillipsae caught that dreaded JC mealy bug that so many of my plants must have had. It did go to seed, however, before it became completely infested and I gave up and threw it out. I was dumb and forgot the two seeds outside overnight and one blew away! The seed that was left got planted and now, well, let's just say I'm a proud momma.

Two weeks ago:

Lori, mealy bugs are easy to treat. I use Bayer 3 in 1 with watering just before bring them in. And again in late spring. Never had a problem. But try to get early to stop the damage that stays with the plant.

Bayer 3 in 1 has become very hard to find, unfortunately.

A few minutes ago Amazon and Walmart both had the 32oz Bayer 3 in 1. They are having these shipping wars so some days 'free shipping' is available with a rather low dollar total purchase. Curiously just now our nearest Walmart has none on the shelf and order for pickup at the local store is not available but it can be ordered for delivery to our doorstep.

Bonide Systemic Houseplant Insect Control; Last for up to 2 months, Imidacloprid 0.22% Same as Bayer 3 in 1 but I purchased a gallon of imidacioprid pure at Home Depot on line shipped to store. Was cheap and will last a lifetime. People in Calf. are banning this and may not be able to purchase without a license. Also main ingredient for dogs flea & tick.
