We were taught in high school botany, or some such, that there were two 'types' of plants, vascular and something else. Landscapers have lists of 'types' that are part of their argot.

I see persons here asking ''What 'type' of plant do I have?'' when they are apparently asking for identification, perhaps a common name or a genus and species.

Should we ever get pedantic and refer them to a simple paragraph on taxonomy or just leave the matter for us geezers to ponder in our dotage?
