For a while I was nagging Lisa about growing this. I have a sprout growing now. This one sprout happened in my hot house this spring. She recommended I sow seeds into a pot outside and keep watered as they normally take a long time. That's what I have done as a backup. I've heard of Oklahoma gardeners who are able to overwinter them outdoors once established.

I hope to draw lots of butterflies.

Isn't Passion flower a native? Would depend on variety I suppose. I tried to grow it from a store bought fruit once. No joy.

We had a clematis when we first moved here. Every year DH would forget and weed wack it down. I have carrots sprouting in the bush beans. I think I forgot I planted them there.

I got some Maypop passion flower (Passiflora incarnata) to germinate from seed last year without much problem. This year, the new seeds I bought have not germinated and it has been about a month. I planted the seedlings in the ground last year and the plants grew to about 12-18 inches and did not flower or look all that good. However, they have come back up this year and are looking much stronger and one is already about 10 inches tall. A shoot did come up about 24 inches from where I planted them last year. I love the look of the flowers and hopefully will get to try the fruit this year.

Mars, thanks for that. The one I have as a seedling is really puny and I can't see it making much this year (but one never knows). I'll be certain to be patient with it.

This is all good to read. I thought I was the only one who had trouble growing passion vine.

mars_in_tulsa - oh that's good to know - I think maybe I'll try to stick with one for a few years! It's good to know they come back!
