Painting the Ceiling

We have a small bungalow style home with an open kitchen-front room-TV room design. It is a dark space with a dark wood ceiling. We are thinking of painting the ceiling to lighten the space but don't know whether to paint it all out, or just the beams or leave the beam and paint the ceiling. Thank you for your help.

If the beams had a wood finish I would say leave them and paint the ceiling but unfortunately they have been painted a dark gray...sooooo the best thing to do is paint the beams all white...leave the wood ceiling please!!

Yes, please, please leave the wood ceiling. The dark beams do not bother me at all. In fact, for a bungalow, I think it works great. If anything, just paint the beams.
