I've seen deformed growth like that on palms before. Usually it results from some sort of damage that happens to the central growth point - fungal infection, freeze damage which then leads to fungal infection or rot, etc. Your palm looks healthy and will probably grow out of it. If the rotted leaves have already been pushed out of the central growth area, these next few leaves were probably also damaged while they were forming. new leaves developed after the infection should be normal - but it may take several months for those normal fronds to fully develop and fan out.

As far as palms choking themselves out, i have never heard of such a thing. Maybe it's just an old tale?

Thank you Josue. We didn't get freeze rot here in Miami, but some sort of fungus infection obviously occurred. So you suggest leaving it alone and letting it heal itself sort of thing? How often can/should I fertilize it?

I have also occasionally seen this type of damage on my containerized palms in the North. In my case, it was cold damage but assume there can be other causes that damage but not kill the palm bud. I also have seen them out grow this without doing anything special..., just given that great healer..., TIME. I don't see harm in normal fertilizing

Yeah, there isn't anything you could do really, except let it grow out of this damage. Bismarkia grow fairly quick so perhaps you'll have a normal looking palm by the end of summer.

This is an OLD post, BUT, that "growth" looks like it is NOT from that palm tree at all, it is in NO WAY like that palms foliage. It is variegated and the palm is NOT.
