How Dated is the Clipped Corner Accent Look?

Looking at a home which has about 2000 sq ft of good quality travertine. Unfortunately the style is that the corners are clipped and there is a diamond accent inlay. This pattern is everywhere.

How dated is this look? We're considering if it makes sense to rip it out and put something new in or repolish. Ripout would obviously cost s lot more.

Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

STUNNING floor!!!! OMG! Those are IMPRESSIVE stones! Polish, seal and leave in place = envy of anyone trying to put in travertine/tumbled limestone flooring!!!!!

These are CLASSIC floors. They don't "trend"! They IMPRESS! And they impress for 100 years OR MORE!!! You have a floor that will last as long as the floors in the VATICAN! (I've seen them....the Vatican halls are finished in a floor MUCH like this one...and many of them are more than 100 years old).

If it is good enough for DOZENS of Popes....they are probably good enough for the rest of us. I wouldn't even THINK of getting rid of these.

These should be polished up and SEALED and then only a WELL TRAINED cleaning person (could be you...could be the maid service) will touch these. And ONLY with the STRICTEST of instructions on how to clean and with "what" cleaners....which you will get a list from the stone flooring professional who will do the work for you.

Of course it is your home. Do as you will but those floors are worth the price of admission else where (it cost money to view the Vatican!).

Real stone? With an INLAY? That's a high-end floor (assuming the install and the grout etc are all done well).

Photos would help tremendously. If you don't like it, then rip it out. Stone removal is MUCH more expensive than tile removal. Stone takes a HUGE amount of effort to remove because of the materials used. Stone tiles don't "break out" like porcelain or ceramic. And the material used to mortar it into place can be VERY stubborn to remove. The amount of grinding required to get this subfloor smooth and ready to take something else will be HIGH.

I would imagine this is double or triple the price of "porcelain tile" removal. Your style will dictate whether or not this floor can be incorporated into your home. Check your budget to see if you can afford the extra cost of removal. It will be much higher than ceramic/porcelain tile removal.

So you're going to rip up an expensive floor because right now it may be dated? Guess what, in five to ten years if it is dated (and I don't believe it is), it will be back in style but will cost triple the price to replace.

I've been to the Vatican - absolutely stunning but I was there in the summer months during a Major heatwave which ruined the experience slightly.

One thing we do need to do is tear out a wall. Getting a match on the floor for the transition could be a challenge.

If you don't like the accent color of the buttons they could probably be removed and replaced with something closer to the stone color.

I'm a wood guy but I think that's a travertine so it's fairly common, meaning you might be able to find batches that more closely resemble what you already have.
