For you house…love the hip roof…I would paint the front door white (because the storm is white (I don’t like to see two colors as that visually shrinks the look of the door itself) and two white railings with your white steps.

Thank you Judy and jbax, you're right the 2 door colours just don't work. I was trying to bring a warm color into the look but it ends up looking disjointed. This will be my spring and summer project. Thanks for giving me direction.

Hey Ozziecat, I had a different idea for you. I love your mid-century front door and think it's a shame to hide it behind the storm door. I had the same dilemma personally, and grappled with the practicality of the storm door ( I have three kids, love the ease and air flow of the storm door, hate the look) but finally removed it with no regrets. If you're keeping it, maybe it's worth looking into having it painted out. A warm charcoal, do the door the same colour, for contrast with the windows.

Your stairs are narrow and I feel white aluminum railings will really close it in visually and physically. Since it's a small area, iron railings might not be prohibitively expensive and will have a much slimmer profile. Alternatively, wood could be a nice look here too. Since you have mobility issues to consider I would recommend going with railings on both sides, although the planters on one side would be nice aesthetically.

I would also add a second light sconce to the other side of the front door, for balance, and to make the door/entrance feel more "important".

The mailbox is a bit distracting here. I'd do a freestanding model at the bottom of the walk by your light post, off to the side. New house numbers in a simple font style, but fairly bold in size, will add more interest.

Love the red door. Have you thought of planter boxes under the windows? Also think that black railing is the way to go.

Larson offers storm doors in colors. One of them is Cranberry. I hate colored doors with white storm doors. To me it's like wearing white socks with a suit.

I totally own see that my stairway is quite narrow and adding another wall sconce would certainly make the entrance more balanced. they also need to be bigger than the one I have currently. The wrought iron is another great option . So much to think about.

New screen door and I would paint the door a light teal color. I would then plant some white and yellow plants and freshen up the landscaping.

Evergreen landscaping would add a lot. Your house would look better all year. Any flowering shrubs or annuals would go in front of the evergreens. These are yews, which are hardy across Canada, and do well in sun and shade. Different varieties grow taller or wider, be sure to read the tag.

Window boxes on the small windows on the right, black everything else for trim. Professional plan for the house flower beds to get your proportions and color correct and to have something 'blooming' all three seasons in Canada; spring summer autumn.

I love the elements on this house; deep schrubs in grey and green around the house, bluestone pavers for walking, stone column that would look pretty on the mailbox, and iron/black window boxes on all they windows; that gives an architectural look to the house...French Country shutters are an option, potted plants in white iron slatted planters on either side of door. Door made more important with addition of half side lights and simple black laterns...note that the windows and door trim are white....storm door could have wrought iron scroll work on part of it.....lots of of detail but what a combination of lush. I love the plummy color on shutters; blends in with bluestone pavers....the nice thing about the exterior is that it can be done in stages and seasons and the windows are White just like yours!
