That Dreaded Awkward Space

I need help! I am SO not design intuitive, in fact I have lived in my house for eight years and am finally working towards hanging something up on my walls! We recently just redid our floors/repainted everything so I'm now trying to get an adult space :)

Ok, so current dilemma. We have two rooms that flow into each other-the fireplace room (formal sitting area) and TV room. The wall between the two rooms is odd-not a full opening but also of centered to anything. Currently I'm trying to figure out placement of my fireplace room-both ways that I can figure give me an awkward space along a wall. Any ideas what I could do with it? Also-I need to put some sort of furniture or something in the corner to contain the modem/internet router as it is the only place in the house it can be connected. This allows for more space and maybe room for a purposeful furniture?

I would put some type of wall unit on that wall where your modem is to stand up/match the french door on the other side of the fireplace. Then I would have the couch face the fireplace with the two chairs on either side of the fireplace facing back to the couch. You need an area rug under that seating area.

I love your room. Your walls are a great colour, the furniture is perfect and your fireplace is beautiful. I agree with maybe a bookcase on the other side of the fireplace. I like the sofa facing the fireplace.

Last layout is good. You just need some casegoods, an area rug and a lighting revamp.

I just purchased a rug-I will update as soon as it comes in.

For those that suggest bookcase on the empty wall-tall ones or a short one with wall decor? Also for the lighting upgrade, what do y'all suggest?

If you can live without it, replace the ceiling fan with a nice semi-flush chandy (your ambient light) on a dimmer. Once in the room, dim it down and light the place with table and floor lamps (task lighting.) Then you could add some LED's under the upper cabinets of your built-in for accent lighting, as well as task lighting.

Either a tall unit or shorter w/ art would work to balance the piece across the room. A short piece would allow you to also place another lamp.

A ceiling light in the living room (and bedroom) is flattering to very few people. Much better is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. Most of us would like to look our best!

I'm in Texas so sadly the ceiling fan must stay-it is what keeps us sane during the Summer (and Fall, Spring and sometimes even Winter!) I like the idea of doing a low piece on the long wall to add another lamp.

The sofa facing the fireplace makes the most sense. Very comfortable looking. A small desk or bookshelf or bar can hide the modem.

Looking back at old dilemmas to see if people finished and posted pictures. I'm always sad when OP leaves. Don't they know it makes us feel like we missed the end of the movie?! Would have loved to see how this room turned out. It's a pretty one!
