Master bedroom

Hi everyone! I am not a designer whatsoever, however I would love to surprise my wife with a new and improved bedroom before she arrives next weekend. I am going for a cottage inspired look. Your help/ advice would be greatly appreciated!

I plan on painting the walls, what colors would you guys suggest to compliment the light grey bedding?!

    Hi Tim

Are you thinking a shade of grey? You could take a pillow case in to the paint store to check the undertones as there are so many varieties. How much light is in the room in the daytime? I have a very pale almost white grey on my walls which is very soothing after years of Crimson!

Here's another incredibly soothing beautiful color, everyone would love this.Sherwin Williams glass slipper

Another sneaky way would be if your wife has a Pinterest page to see what colours she has been pinning.

One more thing, the end table lamp is extremely small so a new larger lamp would be in order plus I'd like to see a runner on the bureau and a nice lamp at one end. Home Good has lovely lamps. Measure the one you have and buy one double that size. Keep it simple.

Yaya did you mean this? https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/1632/glass-slipper?color=1632

    What a pretty color!

However, I think you nailed it with SW Sea Salt!!

What a sweet idea. What's your wife's favorite color?

Personally, I love colors like the ones mentioned above, i.e. blue-green-gray

But she may prefer green, lavender, cream, or very, very light pink.

I can't see what light fixture you have, but that might be something to consider, too. Oh, and get a bouquet of fresh flowers.

That's a very sweet idea, Tim, but unless you're really sure you know what she would like, it might be better to wait until she comes home. How about flowers and a gift bag on the bed with wine, a box of chocolates and a fan deck of paint colors from your paint brand of choice. The fan decks have all the paint cards bound together so you don't have to run back and forth to the store to select sample chips. Women tend to have definite opinions about what they want in their bedrooms.

Thanks everyone for your commentary! I really love the color of that paint. I will probably go with that!

And Yes I will need some help with some wall decor. I will post my progress on here. Thanks again

I'm going to agree with chickadee. In addition to the goodies she mentioned, why don't you write her a sweet note and tell her you want to give her a bedroom makeover. The paint colors mentioned are all nice, but I personally wouldn't want them with gray bedding. Your intentions are lovely, but why don't you let her pick out the color that she likes.

I have to agree with chickadee too. I personally would prefer a bit more color. Also it can be fun for the two of you to choose color and other items together

I think it's a lovely idea, if she isn't 100% happy with the colors, paint can always be painted over but I would go with a color that offers a bit of contrast to the gray bedding. Sea Salt is a pretty color, but we used it originally in our master bath and in a room without much light, it reads very light and will look more white than gray. If Sea Salt is your preference, go one shade darker and use Comfort Gray instead, same beautiful color, just darker and therefore more visable. Colorwise, the Comfort Gray would read similar to this with your bedding:

I love sea salt as your choice

I know paint is easy to change but if my DH surprised me with a bedroom makeover and I didn't like it, I wouldn't have the heart to tell him. I'd just live with it.

I'd be the same way K9arlene and just try to work around it, but (and it's just my own point of view) if my husband were to take the initiative and go to all that trouble, unless it were just butt ugly, I honestly doubt I'd care about the color.

Nosoccermom, that bedroom is gorgeous!! Now I'm pining over that color.

Hope you are absolutely certain this gift will be welcomed. If your wife has A. been frustrated and unhappy with the room , B. Unable to make decisions on decor, and C. You truly know what she loves....then she will be one thrilled and lucky wife. Everyone is different. I would be so upset to have this dreamed of job taken from me. You're getting great advice, so can't go very wrong. Best wishes!!

How involved do you want this make over to go?

i have some suggestions........add crown mounding, paint & add some trim to the closet door, remove the mirror that goes with the dresser & replace with something more simple that is in a metal color for a little shine. Since you have to have smaller nightstands- how about wall mounted(plug in) sconces? Add a coordinating lumbar pillow to bed. Use the small bedside lamp on the dresser with a pretty tray & framed photo of y'all or children or dog/cats- whatever you love!!

Hope im not overwhelming you!! It would my husband- and what a sweet gesture!

A good way to figure out whether or not this would be a welcomed surprise is to ask yourself who makes the large majority of decorating decisions in your home. If you both do it together equally you might be safe. If you are the main decorating decision maker you have a good chance of being safe. If your wife usually makes all the decisions you are in the "not safe" category.

Your wife will still be excited for the project to be done when she gets home if you show her the paint color first.

Will we be able to see the final results please.

The things hanging on the walls seem to be placed too high, except for the one over the headboard. Generally speaking, you want the center of the picture on the wall to be at eye level. And can you get a small piece of furniture to be a nightstand for the other side of the bed? And a lamp for it? Your nightstands do not have to match.

What a sweet gesture. She must have arrived by now. Was she pleased? I do agree that the pics are hung too high, esp for a room that you'll be looking at them mostly when you are prone. I'd move the round one down to fill in some of the space to the left of the lampshade and the two on the right down quite a bit, too, as well as the rest of them. The one of the white flowers reflected in your dresser mirror looks like it might be fine.
