I tend to like different lamps. Adds more interest. They could be tied together by same color shades, or same color finishes, but they could be completely different also, depending on the style of your room. I find when you go to purchase a single lamp, ie., at Homegoods in the US or Homesense in Canada, or an antique shop, you get a way more interesting design of lamp than you might get in a matching set of 2 or 3.

The size and shape of night stands depends on your lifestyle. Do you read in bed, etc? Need a clock, phone, place for a cup? Do you want drawers? Don't limit yourself to traditional night tables and matching sets. A small chest of drawers on one side and a round table on the other could be fun. Look in the sofa department for side tables as well as consignment stores and even garage sales for something fun, maybe quirky or unexpected like a glass top over an urn or Chinese fish bowl. Size doesn't matter as long as it fits and works for you, there are no rules and current design strategy is mix it up! Enjoy this treasure hunt.

I always fancied the bronze lamp shade by Tom Dixon just a pity that it doesn't give it a nice soothing ambient light as it is opaque. I think I should tie it in with the rug - something like a bronze that shimmers. What do you think of these shades? Blocks designed to lift the bed can be found at the big box stores and enable you to have more room for storing stuff under your bed, including the vacuum cleaner.
