No, those do not work. You have many problems in that room. Those shelves need to be removed, they serve no purpose. That accent chair needs to be reupholstered in a more neutral color pattern. The drapes need to be replaced with a lighter color. The yellow throw pillows do not match on a dark leather chair. The furniture and area rug need to be repositioned to name just a few.

The shelving does not work and the pieces do not work. You would need to tie all together with a custom made cabinet that incorporates media storage/fireplace/books?/art the entire with of the wall and full height up to ceiling.

This is the best way to create something that is homogeneous and orderly exiting.

I love the fabric on that chair and the drapes with it. I think you should remove on shelf on both sides of the fireplace, the ones closest to the ceiling. I dont think the leather sofa is the right shape. The television is huge. I would try and figure out how to cover it with art when not in use.
