Decorating Marital compromise?

What fun, although they seemed to have failed one of the cardinal rules of decorating; too many focal points

I'm speechless, and not due to delight in what I see....

    And in that house

    There was a room

    The strangest room

    That you ever did see..

HA! Perfectly appropriate for 420, justterrilynn!

I'm not sure I would be comfortable watching the TV with the animal watching me.

I'll be positive. I like the tropical side better than the Alaskan half.

    oh deer

I'm laughing so hard I'm crying.

OMG, it reminds me of a nightmare dream inside a giant, white plastic egg!

Wow. They have been trying to recapture a particularly crazy dream?

The only compromise I can see is that he's not stuffed and mounted for wanting a decor like that.

This looks more like War of the Roses type revenge on each other through decor choices than marital compromise.

Can't live with 'm can't live w/o 'm. Remove the critters and there are still a lot of choices I wouldn't make.

The bedspread in the MBR is quilted silver lame'.

That poor bear, noble creature, sad. Also, shall we refer to the other thread about mirrored walls in dining rooms?

A man walks into a taxidermist studio with his bear

and mumbles ...make a mount of the ole smeller.

Taxidermist hears...make em look like Old Yeller.

Well, that tiled room looks like a surgical suite....

I can't figure out which side wanted the slip covered dining room chairs.

Where in the world did you find this? Are the pictures from a real estate listing?

I'm especially intrigued by the Starbucks cup and the Olan Mill's photo from the 1980s. The fish kind of work with the Florida vibe decor, the wildlife is just a big NO. In many ways.

Maybe the chairs are covered in fur.

This is actually a local house in a suburban county.

The taxidermy is by far the best stuff in the decor.

Pal, what is this? It can't be a listing. Or, can it? I'm fascinated by the goofy expression on that bear. And, I don't even think that dog behind the bear is a mount. I think he is alive and just stands there moving just a little when people walk by... kind of like a little Eddie dog.

ETA: oh, its a local house.

If it weren't for the stuff wildlife & the sofa, there's be no color at all. I can't figure out the big glass cube. Wall? That bear's expression cracks me up. Something's wrong about the ears and, well, the whole thing.

The mirrored glass cube is the kitchen walls, with a mirrored built-in that wraps the corner.

I was interested in this because I regularly see primarily white houses with pastels and mirrors, and I regularly see houses with lots of taxidermy. This is the first house where I have seen the combination.

This house also has a room with a peach or mauve lacquer built-in.

I don't know, I sometimes admire the commitment of some of those heavily mirrored, lacquered houses but this one seems awfully chilly and sort of incomplete overall.

Is that a stuffed dog behind the bear?

It is a dog but he is alive. It's Eddie.

    Nightmares!

Definitely not child-friendly, unless it is a demon-child. I remember my father trying to take me to an office that had a mounted sailfish on one of its walls, and I was too terrified to go in.

Is the recliner plugged in?? I think I see a cord behind it. I do not see a silver lame bedspread, however, or even a bed.

I do not mind multiple focal points.

While I normally like glass brick, I think I would want to be able to look out the window while at a dining table - maybe the view is even scarier.

I guess it depends on where you grew up. My eye doctor had a giant swordfish in her waiting room and my family doctor had one over his fireplace. Friends of my parents rented a Victorian house that had been a hunting lodge that had heads all over it. My neighbor got a deer every year (which they ate) and one year got a bear that hung upside down in the barn for a while (in the freezing cold) and we would go in and poke it with sticks. Then the bear head hung in their house. Most kids where I grew up had a morbid fascination with dead animals, I think.

The awfulness is just overwhelming. This is where they'd put me if I were being punished for committing a crime.

Oh this house is the gift that keeps giving. The wall of mirrors in the bedroom, my oh my. I can't figure out the purpose of the lacquer, assymmetical storage thing at the end of the bed. The lame bedspread reminds me of a survival blanket.

I could handle the silver lame bedspread, but the mauve would do me in.

Is that a silver lame bedspread or an emergency camping blanket?

I think the thing at the end of the bed may be for a TV?

I dunno, I sometimes like mauve. Dunno why.

Hey, I have a deer head in my garage. It came from my great aunt's house. Wish I knew where this is so I could go to the open house.

My ex was okay with any of my decorating decisions as long as it was beige.

We have Victorian era deer legs/hooves made into hooks. I think they were to be used as a gun rack. My grandmother at one time had a tiger rug with a fully taxidermied skull in one of the bedrooms, we always turned it and put the head under the bed because invariably you would stick your foot in the mouth in the middle of the night. They all predated the current feelings about such things.

I think many men must either have no particular opinion about color or not be bothered by pink or pastel colors in certain rooms because I still see it a lot, (Or at least men at one time did not care so much). One of my design professors said most of the men whose wives he decorated for did not care at all about what color the bedroom was, as long as it felt okay, which meant no ruffles or lace.

For a split second, I thought the bear was on a treadmill, lol!

it appears the house belongs to a Trophy Hunter with a colorful minimalist taste. Blech!

This is awful. I wonder what the owners are like. I know I shouldn't make assumptions, but the house makes it seem like they'd be dreadful.

I'll bet the owner's a rich older man with a trophy wife.

Admittedly, DH has a few deer heads on the wall of our game room upstairs. However, a bear would scare me to death every time I saw it. I have a friend whose husband is a huge hunter-Alaska, Africa, etc. and they have a polar bear, a lion and many other taxidermied animals in their home. She is always inviting us to come stay for a weekend, and I just can't do it.

All I can think of when I hear silver lame is one of the outfits I wore when I was a baton twirler back in the day. Of course, I loved it at the time. That was in the late seventies/early eighties. I would have to say no to that bedspread.

    Thanks for a good laugh!

"I regularly see houses with lots of taxidermy."

    Yikes. I am so sorry.

I like it. Although we once had a woman friend who was an enthusiastic hunter, it's very easy to imagine this is a wonderful example of compromising with positive and generous hearts. I know that would definitely be proof of my love and commitment.

Thanks for the laughs and smiles, Palimpsest!

Clearly a couple that cares enough to compromise...

    hers/ his...

modern sofa for the deer head

modern light for the big fish

modern coffee tables for that trio of dead heads

modern recliner for more dead fish..

... don't want the dog messing up the comforter.. his solution, the emergency no rip blanket of course..

don't want to see the massive gun cabinets / easy hide them with mirrors..

painted the walls 10 different colors and none matched the bear and the sofa so just went with white...

And the sofa is purple because so she wouldn't have to worry about DH inviting anyone over for the game

I thought that was their dead dog behind the bear.
