Determining Decor Style

I'm moving into a completely empty house and I need help determining my decor style throughout. I'm an amateur at this so please forgive me if the cues are obvious. My initial instinct is that it is somewhere between "craftsman" and "transitional". However, the light fixtures have metal and almost feel modern or industrial? I'm just looking for some direction with style of furnishing and color.

In particular, I'm not a fan of white painted wood for coffee tables, etc. If I go with stained wood furnishings, do I have to match the stain of the built-ins or can I go with a dark wood stain?

The furniture on the pictures is from the staging.
Any advice welcome! Thank you!

Pictures: exterior to give you context, and kitchen. I'll post pictures of the living room as well.

Here are the pictures from the living/dining room. These are the built-ins that I'm unsure if I need to try to match with my furniture stain.

Cute house! Do you own the house or is it a rental? I love the front door!

Thanks Kay! We own and move in this July :) Do you have any insight into decor style that would work well?

It’s a ranch and I love it! We just bought something very similar for our downsize. Ours circa 1976.

We had to gut the walls, etc, but yours look fine. My dining room is at the back of the living room. You have an indentation across from the fireplace, which we didn’t have…(our exterior wall had two off-side bays, which we got rid of to get the symmetry that your room has).

I have seating for 9 ( 3 on my antique fireplace bench) by the fireplace and purchased two host/hostess chairs for the dining table, allowing me to pull in two more chairs if needed. The room really works well.

I think you could update the lighting, for sure.

You can turn that house into something wonderful. Yikes, I wish I lived near you. We had so much fun doing ours.

If you want to click on my page, you can see how unappealing the house was when we bought it. I haven’t posted “after” pictures yet.

    I did an English arm sofa from Interior Define;

And here are my chairs, which sweet elle did for me in my own fabric. Lisa was nice enough to give me credit on their site.

Thanks JudyG! I'm glad to hear so much optimism-- we thought the layout worked really nicely for a house built in 1950!

I really like the sofa you posted a picture of-- did your decor echo the style of that sofa?

Do you have any insight on what would work well with my house? Stick with the "craftsman" feel with the built-ins, or go more modern?

I like all the woodwork, but I wonder if it is original to the house? No matter…it has a great look. I, personally would paint it and all the trim, not white/white, but maybe B.M Acadia White.

My house faces North to South. Yours?

Same, the front door faces North. I've often considered how everything would look with all the woodwork painted. Thanks for the advice!

I painted the living room and hallway B.M Olympic Mountains and my woodwork and ceilings Super White. The walls look great and the color works very well with the exposure.
