U-Shaped Kitchen Layout - HELP!

My husband and I are building a house but I'm hung up on the layout of the kitchen. It is a 20' X 9' U-shaped kitchen with an island. I want the sink to face the living room like the layout shows, but I want the island to be open without a stove top. We also don't want an e-space or an in kitchen pantry either. Any options on where to place the double oven, gas cook top, refrigerator, and microwave? Would it be too far away from the sink to have the stove and oven on the side where the e-space is shown?

Here's the CAD file with the dimensions. My husband drew it without the pantry and e-space so I don't know how big those were supposed to be. The kitchen and dining room will have a coffered ceiling. The bottom of the beams will be 9' high and the recessed square portion will be 9'6" high.

i see that you added the cook top to the 9' wall and the wall oven to the 9'4" wall.

what about putting the cook top on the ref wall, this way its easier to work since its closer to the sink. put the wall oven in the corner next to the door way , (where you have your current cooktop now wall) and the fridge next to it.

The CAD drawing was just something to get us started with the initial changes of removing the e-space, pantry, and relocating the range, but I wasn't sold on that layout either. I figured someone could give me a more functional suggestion on the layout. Thank you for your input!!! I will get my husband to draw up the changes to look at it.

here i made a quick sketch:

I really like that! That will free up all the counter and cabinet space on the far right wall (where the e-space was). We might have to but in a small wine fridge and make that an adult beverage station.

    That's nice. warm weather ;)

Have you decided on the style and color of the kitchen cabinets yet?

I'm thinking an off-white shaker style cabinets with a light quartz or granite on the perimeter counters and a mahogany or hickory butcher block counter for the island. The floors will be (heated) tan stained concrete throughout the house. Subway tile with a gray grout for the back splash. I'm debating on a white apron front farmhouse sink or a copper apron front farmhouse sink. I want the range hood to be either reclaimed wood or copper.

I love bright, airy white kitchens but I don't want it to feel cold so I figured pulling in some wood and copper would help warm it up some.

that's really great! I really like the idea of the copper apron sink it will break up the kitchen and give it a unique look. It will compliment the island counter to an extent.

Did you decide on fully inset face frame cabinets? or regular frameless cabinets?

also, is the refrigerator going to be stainless steel, or paneled like the kitchen cabinets ?

I prefer the frameless cabinets with drawers that fully open. The fridge will most likely be stainless steel even though it might look better paneled.

yes frameless cabinets does the best job for a clean looking kitchen. here is a pic of a job we did a while back. The customer wanted copper too so we came up with an idea how the copper will compliment with the rest of the stainless steel appliances.

this kitchen happened to be face frame fully inset, but you can do it frameless too

    What is an e-apace?

To me, the refrigerator should be where the 'e-space' is. The stove should be where the refrigerator is. The double ovens can be where 'pan' is.

Never put the fridge in the middle of the work space. People use it while you are working. To get drinks, ice, snacks. Keep them out of your way.

Good point auntthelma!! An e-space is another name for a small desk/computer area.

Allison, will you use the desk? I will say, I HATE all the wires and phones all over my kitchen counter, so having a docking station or some way to organize the mess is a good idea. I might suggest it be somewhere other than the kitchen.

    Hi Marine,

I LOVE being able to look at the kitchen with the 3-D model you provided. However, I do not want anything in the island. I think we have decided on this layout -

The sink stays where it is overlooking the living room. If you are looking at the sink, the cooktop will be centered in the space to the left of it, where you show the refrigerator. The double oven will go to the left of the door way where it is shown in your model. Lastly, the refrigerator will go on the blank wall in your model, It'll be to the left of the double oven and straight across the kitchen from the sink.

Glad you finalized the floor plan layout. You can also play with the 3D model and make the changes and see how it will look like

    Good Luck!
