Sounds like a great project! I'm attaching a picture of a kitchen we recently remodeled that has green cabinets. Though these came from the factory painted, I know you can get the same color from Sherwin Williams. It is called Zeus. These countertops were soapstone but I think you can achieve the same look with a dark granite. The walls are a slight off white and the backsplash is a simple white subway tile. The appliance are black. Good luck and we hope you'll upload photos of your finished project.

I see there is a pass through to the dining or breakfast area. Is the kitchen open to any other room whose colors and furnishings need to be considered? If it is entirely closed off from other rooms you can simply paint the same color for kitchen and eating area. Generally, if it is open to another room, the fabrics and textiles there (as well as paint) need to feed into the decision on paint color for the kitchen/dining.

The kitchen is its own room. We have a little eating area in front of our awesome window. I'll take a picture of that for a better understanding. I was really hoping to get away from all the dark cabinetry and granite. I am not a fan of it at all.

Before you start, consider covering the red walls in the kitchen and nook with white primer. I read this somewhere on Houzz. it will give you a blank slate. Hire a pro to paint your cabinets...contact cabinet pros in your area, instead of painters. It is quite a process but well worth it! They should paint your doors off site. My oak cabinets were painted off white 3 years ago and I love them. Your floors look tan on my screen, so u may want to stick to warmer white paint colors. I've seen some really pretty pale green backsplash on Houzz that look great with light or dark countertops. For some reason I can't post pics from my phone...ugh. I will try tomorrow from my laptop.

Yes. The walls are coral. They will definitely need to be primed.

Here are a few Houzz images for you. I don't mean to imply that you should pick your backsplash first...that decision should be after you pick your cabinet color and countertops. Why don't you look at BM White Dove for your cabinets.

I hope by "get all matching appliances" you mean just "replace the stove and microwave with stainless ones," because your other appliances look fine, and there's no particular magic to having them from the same manufacturer...

Mostly agree with above advice -- would go for a light cabinet color and then just about any counter should be possible. Also agree with cutting down the wall behind the sink so that you can have a wider counter/peninsula there -- however, two considerations: (1) if you want seating, you'll need to keep the overhang slim, in order not to block the walkway from the back door, and (2) you'll need to have some outlets installed in your cabinets to replace the ones that are currently in that little strip of wall...

When you get rid of the fluorescent light, consider adding more total fixtures -- it's good to have task lighting on the sink and on prep counters, as well as general ambient light in the room. This is easiest to achieve with either recessed (can) lights or with tracks, whose heads can be directed toward the relevant surfaces. Since you're opening up your pass-through, a little pendant light right there over the sink could be cute too.

Under-cabinet lighting has become efficient and inexpensive too, so if you're having an electrician in, that might be worth adding if you don't already have some.

Yes - I am just replacing my microwave and oven range. My dishwasher and French door fridge are my loves. Ha !

Thank you for the thoughtfulness of the peninsula. I am not sure I will be using it for seating bc of that very reason you mentioned. I don't want to block the walkway , but I want more counter space.

before you sink a bunch of money into painting the cabinets and changing the countertops I would remove the cabinets you want and repaint. I like the cabinets and countertop. I think they would both look better with a different paint color, coordinating backsplash that ties in with the flooring and matching appliances.

I might recommend that you strip/sand the cabinets of that color and stain them with either a dark cherry or ebony color. Removing those little uppers will help the room look bigger and more open. Stainless steel appliances will go well with that tile and either of the colors I mentioned.

I get it. my best suggestion to you is look through Houzz and pinterest pictures of kitchens and save every one you like. you'll find common colors, styles and layouts. take that over anyone else ideas because we all have different styles and color preferences you are the only one that knows your tastes, budget and how it functions for your family,

Thank you. Yes. We have already scheduled for the floors to be cleaned. :-) We are hoping for a dramatic change like the pics you posted. We already have someone lined up to do the cabinets. I just need to decide on the color of white , alabaster or a pale gray.

Yes - we will be changing the granite completely. I am just looking for a light and bright kitchen. I don't want anymore brown in there. I agree that the lighting will drastically change the look as well as painting the walls. We plan on painting the walls a soft gray or beige to match the rest of the house and to compliment our new kitchen.

If you have a spare floor tile, take it with you when you look for new granite. If not, print out a photo that really captures the color well, or match a paint chip to the tile color to take with you. It's the new granite color and the floor that will determine which soft gray or beige will look best on the cabinets.

If you are planning to use the same artwork, taking some photos of it with you would be good, too.

We are almost finished. I wanted to post an update. We still need to finish up a few drawers and add moulding to the top but it has drastically changed.
