Best deck stains

After I finish the cleaning and brightening of my deck, I plan on staining it. I hope to use a semi transparent, or semi solid stain (assuming I can remove the tannin stains first) I've read so many reviews, for the most part, it seems deck stains are not as good as they used to be. I'd like opinions as to the best deck stains - UV protection, resistance to peeling, longevity, etc. On our old deck, we had used an oil based Cabot stain, I believe, and it held up well. But from what I understand, the formulas are not the same today, and the quality of deck stains in general is not as good as in the past. So, recommendations on stains - brands, type - semi transparent or semi solid, anything that will help me decide. Thanks!
