Modern bathroom reveal
We didn’t
like our master bath from the very beginning.
Useless bathtub, narrow layout (we could hardly squeeze between
the sink and Jacuzzi), boring tile, the list goes on... The ”BEFORE” pictures
tell it all.
We’ve
already had some remodeling experience when we renovated our guest bathroom.

Though we
liked the outcome of our first remodeling project this time we wanted a modern style bathroom and Houzz
happened to be a great source of the design ideas. After hours and hours of surfing
we came up with two bathrooms designs.
We liked them both and picked the best from each of them.

After 7 years of happiness shower base started leaking causing a serious damage to the subfloor.

I wouldn't say "grief" but it made our life extremely uncomfortable.
The root cause was a damaged insulation around shower threshold. We didn't notice any signs like mold or specific smell until guy from the termite inspection found dropped pieces of subfloor in our crawl space.
The only positive outcome from this disaster is our decision to lower subfloor and get rid of threshold entirely. It's not a big deal when you build a new house but could be quite challenging in the existing one.
We invited a structural engineer to evaluate our floor support structure and luckily he suggested a solution the would allow lowering subfloor by adding additional reinforcement joists.

Insulation failed where marble frame was attached to the curb.

Walls were OK for 7 years. Leak happened across the wall in the area where marble frame attached to the curb.
