That's an extension spring, not torsion. The sound could originate from the pulleys at the other end of the springs or above the top of the door on either side. If the bearings are dry or failing, they will complain.

I wouldn't think it necessary in order to get quieter operation.

Personally, I like torsion systems, until they need repair. Then they take more time and expense than extension springs.

Wrap it with something similar to that stuff that french drainpipe is wrapped with? Or perhaps add rubber washers to all door components that bolt to the ceiling?

I could see using this on the track mount in the pic. But I don't think it is strong enough to support my cable pulley on street side of door.

spray the springs and pulleys with wd 40 that should quiet them.
