Covering and hanging a headboard

I want to make a headboard for our guest room. I don't have access to the big tools required for cutting, so someone suggested using an old door as the base for the headboard (queen). Any suggestions on attaching the covered headboard to the wall?

You use a cleat to hang it. If the door you used was a hollow core door, you can probably just use a couple of picture hanging cleats (HomeDepot sells them).

If it's a heavy solid wood door, you should use a wooden cleat, attached into studs with screws.

Ed...no pictures yet...just want to have all my "ducks lined up before I begin." I want to make sure that I can easily hang a headboard made from a door before going out and buying the supplies...Thanks

Lowes or Home Depot or any lumber yard will cut plywood to whatever size you need and then all you will need is a staple gun.

Not just a staple gun, some backing material (padding)...

ASV I meant the only tool needed is a staple gun. Obviously padding and fabric will be needed too.

moonsma is right. The door may be heavy and hard to work with. Plywood would be much lighter. Wrap it in batting and material and staple. Several websites walk you through the steps.
