Home office

We have a long narrow room and would like to make this space into a nice home office. We need to keep the sofa in this room as it's too big to go anywhere else. Need help with how to position furniture. The sofa is the only piece we have thus far.

Normally, as a general rule i like the desk to face the door where you would be walking into the room from. So in this case, given what I can see, I would put the desk away from the wall where the couch is now with the chair obviously behind it up next to that wall, and have the desk centered on that arched entry way. And then I would put that couch underneath the window. So when you're seated at the desk, you can not only see the people walking into the office, but you can also scan out to your left to look out the window and take in the view. Then when people walk into the room, they get a surprise seating area to their right, and if you're sitting at the couch (say reading) you have the natural light behind you.

Will you be using this as an office on a daily basis? Should the focus be on a practical workspace or a beautiful "for looks" area? Will you meet clients here? How much storage do you need? Desk top computer: yes or no?

You could move the sofa to the far back wall (assuming it fits) and have the desk face the wall in the middle of the room. Or try the desk facing the window and the couch where it is now with a console on the back wall. It kind of depends on if you are going to be seeing people (clients) in the room or not. You could easily set the room up like we did for one of our clients (first photo) if the couch wasn't going to be in the room.

Our office is inside the main floor master bedroom. I also have a sofa in there ... junky and waiting for my desk to arrive from back order. Still a Work in progress but I also included my inspiration room for u. I have a sofa bed in our office so when my smaller grand babies spend the night I can keep them close, but we still are not bed sharing.

Could you provide measurements of this space and length of sofa please. Then I can do a layout for you. I don't believe the sofa will fit crosswise in the room and it is really just not going to work. I would sell it or donate it where it could be used by an place like Habitat Restor to help someone in need or raise money for their work. To try to work with that piece is going to be no fun. In addition, the width of the room does not look like it can hold a desk against the long wall unless it faces the wall and have sufficient room for a chair to slide back comfortably. But, I could be wrong. Give me measurements so I am dealing with the facts of the space and I would be happy to help. I has good light and could be very interesting. Do you know what this space was originally intended for? A dining room? A small living room/sitting room? Just curious.

Probably some lounge chairs? Desk? Maybe some throw/decorative pillows as well for the sofa? For the sofa here is a variety of solid decorative pillows that might work depending on the color scheme you decide to go with.
